Domestic Cat Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy
Health: Vaccinations Current

Luna is a 5yr old lynx point siamese. She is the sweetest kitty. She loves to snuggle and give affection. Shes a talker. Nacho is a 12yr old long haired tabby. He enjoys sitting next to a window and loves treats. He's pretty laid back. My story is that my parents passed away a few years ago. So the kitties and i have since moved in with my boyfriend of four years. My living situation is not ideal for them. They stay in their own room. My boyfriend is severely allergic to cats... I'm grateful he is allowing me to have them here but I still feel that it is not fair to them. They are used to having a whole house to roam and play in... it just ... (Read More)breaks my heart. Luna has even begun to drool when she sees me because she gets so excited when I come in their room to play or cuddle etc. I let them out occasionally to roam and sit on the screened in porch so they are not totally secluded. They are such awesome cats and I just feel it will be better for them to go to a place where they will be happier. (Less)

Sweet, sweet Pearl has had a 'ruff' road. She came up to one of our directors while she was vacationing at the beach. Pearl was bone thin, hungry, and thirsty, but was still purring and friendly. Pearl has been in foster care now for several months, and of course has been vetted and microchipped. She had some terrible dental issues and had to have 11 teeth extracted. She is fully recovered and eating dry and wet food....happy and healthy! Pearl gets excited to see her people when they come home. She is verbal and has the cutest little tail wag. Rescue Me ID: 17-03-03-00539Pumpkin (male)

Abyssinian Mix    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Most Cats, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, FIV

This incredibly handsome older gentleman is Pumpkin. Just look at those big green eyes and his adorably lop sided mouth. What more can a human ask for in a kitty?! Betrayed by his former humans when they pitched him outside after replacing him with a newer, younger model, Pumpkin was facing certain euthanasia as no rescue would take him In because he is an FIV positive kitty. I received a call from a rescue asking that I take him into my brood as they knew I had other FIVs. I was told by the rescue that Pumpkin was a young orange tabby who had just recently had a dental. When I arrived at the vet's office where he had been deposited ... (Read More)to retrieve Pumpkin, I was surprised to learn that he was not an orange tabby and that he was an older kitty man who had just had most of his teeth removed. Hmm...I should have turned around and run for the door, but I did not do so. Rather carrier in hand, Pumpkin and I left the vet's office, and Pumpkin started a new chapter of his life as an indoor kitty man. This sweet guy is approximately 10 years old and appears to be an Abyssinian/Domestic Mix who needs very little in order to be happy: food and attention. Okay he also needs water and a clean litter box. Still very basic and minimal needs for a kitty. Both Pumpkin and I are hoping there is some kind soul among us that will become his very own human and feed and snuggle him for the remainder of his years. If you are that person, please feel free to contact me. I do when possible like to receive a vet reference. %90%BE%90%BE%90%BE (Less)

Theia, affectionately known as Theia Puphopopolis, is an approximately nine month old American Wirehair/Domestic Mix. Little Miss Theia has been spayed, tested negative for both leukemia and feline immunodeficiency virus, and is up to date on her vaccinations. She is an absolute love and quite the chatterbox. She currently resides in a downstairs bedroom in my house. Her most recent roommates have just been adopted so now it is Theia's turn.     Mozart is an approximately two and a half year old neutered male who appears to be a Burmese/Domestic Mix. Mo tested negative for both feline leukemia and feline immunodeficiency virus, and he is up to date on his vaccinations. Mo, his siblings and his mother were dumpsters kitties at my office park. After watching them scavenge for food, I trapped the family and since trapped they have resided indoors in my downstairs office space. Mozart has lived happily with other kitties and is quite the ladies' man; a number of the rescue kitty girls that inhabit his rescue room are quite smitten with him, following him whereever he goes and ... Phyllis is looking for a quiet home where she can stay indoors and enjoy sitting in a cozy chair, sunning herself in a cat tree and showing off her gorgeous black coat. She is comfortable with other cats and small dogs, we are not sure how she would be with larger dogs. Phyllis has FIV, Feline Immunodeficiency Virus. Domestic Cat    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Cats, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

This super sweet roly poly girl is Eos, affectionately known as E. She is approximately three years old, spayed, up to date on her vaccinations and weighs about 8 pounds. E has been combo tested and is negative for both leukemia and feline immunodeficiency virus. She currently resides in my downstairs' office space with other rescue kitties. Eos has a sleek black, brown and orange coat with a small white patch of fur on her lower tummy; she has big bug eyes and a short semi pugged nose. She is very reserved, but does enjoy playing with toys and a feather wand, albeit in a very dainty fashion. She allows both my brother and I to hold her ... (Read More)on our hips like a baby, and she will wrap her front paws around our necks and give us hugs when we do so. I first spotted E late one afternoon as she was lurking around a patch of bushes in my office parking lot. She most likely was attracted by the food I was putting out for another kitty in an effort to gain his trust and ultimately trap him. After her first sighting, she appeared every day at dusk and patiently wait for me to place the food in the bushes. She would eat from one plate while the boy kitty ate from the other. Once trapped, E lived the first months of her rescue life in a kitty habitat, snuggled up in a ferret hammock, taking in the sights and sounds of life as an office dweller. She ultimately graduated to the downstairs' office space where I place those kitties who have acclimated and are ready for adoption. While she is super social with my brother and myself, I have no doubt that she will need some time to acclimate to her new home. Most likely life in my office was her first experience of living indoors with humans and while she feels at ease with my brother and I, she will most likely need her adopter to gain her trust as we did. No real magic to that, just feeding her and talking to her. I have no doubt that once her adopter does so that this dear girl will be his/her best buddy. If you are interested in becoming this beautiful girl's mom and/or dad, please feel free to contact me. She is so deserving of some human to call her own. I do, when possible, like to receive a vet reference from potential adopters. (Less)

My name's Moe. I'm about 2 years old, and as you can see, a very sweet boy . I am now living the good life since friends at Radford Pound Pals helped me out! Before that, I was kind of on my own. I found this great truck stop where, if I acted cute enough (I am cute, so that wasn't hard!), people would feed me. When my 'Pound Pal' found me, they said I was in kind of bad shape. I had fleas and had scratched myself quite deeply to try to get them off! It really hurt, and I was so happy when they took me to the vet, who has to trim my ears and heal my wounds. I'm as good as new now, and living happily in a foster home. One thing-I ... (Read More)did test as positive for FIV. Please, read up on this before you reject me-I am not contagious living with other cats unless I have sexual contact with them (I am neutered so THAT won't happen) or fight (I am a love and do not fight with others). I am neutered, current on vaccinations, and tested negative for feline leukemia. Please consider adopting me-my foster says I am a perfect cat!     Meet Caramel, a 1 year old brown tabby female. On July 2nd, I received a phone call from the TSC dock worker. He told us that a young cat had her kittens right there on the loading dock. I raced to the store and found the wet newborn kittens on the dirty, dusty, concrete, way back in a corner. I quickly placed a thick towel under them and placed a trap with food and water out for mom. (We cannot take newborn kittens without mom.) After watching from afar, I saw mom/Caramel come and move her babies to a box in the gated area. Another rescuer and I watched for a day before we moved in and took the kittens, placed them safely in a trap, ... (Read More)and awaited while Caramel came into the trap to get her babies. I was watching and took them immediately. Caramel allowed me to pet her after only a week or two and I gained her trust. She was an awesome mom and is now ready for a home of her own. She is very quiet and unassuming, loves to watch out a sunny window, and is interested in people. She will blossom into a great house cat in a quiet home. Her new home must be an indoor only, quiet/low activity with older kids (teenagers). Caramel currently rates a 6/10 on our socialization scale, with 10 being a purrfect house cat. Caramel is spayed, up to date on vaccines, tested negative for feline leukemia. For more info on this sweet girl, call Lynn at 540-825-3744 or email GoodMews22@aol.com. (Less)

Meet Miss Moppett! She is a beautiful, long-haired black and white tuxedo, about 2 years old. She had the misfortune to be living under a home on West Street with her older kittens. The owner was not a cat-lover and decided he was going to seal up the opening under the home, whether Miss Moppett an her family were there or not. I came to get Miss Moppett and she is now living happily in her foster home. Her socialization skills are coming along nicely. She is interested in people and is becoming comfortable with her foster mom being near to her. On our socialization scale of 1-10, 10 being a regular house cat, she currently rates a 5. ...     Meet Noah! Noah is a beautiful, short to medium haired, gray and white, male cat, approximately 2 years old. I received an urgent call that a cat had been in a trap for over a day and a half - no food, no water, in the pouring rain. When I got there, he was sopping wet and shivering, hunched under a jacket that had been partially placed on top of the trap to keep him dry. He was happy to be warm and dry inside his foster home and has turned out to be an okay kinda guy. Though he has barely let me touch him yet, he will literally eat canned food from my hand, is very interested in people, follows me around and gets along very well with the ... (Read More)other cats. He also loves to sleep on the bed and be part of the family. Named for his rainy ordeal, Noah will need a quiet, low activity home with older kids over 12, where he can blossom. He can come so far in the short time I have had him. He is a love. Noah rates a 8/10 on our socialization scale, with 10 being a purrfect house cat. (Less)

Domestic Cat    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Cats, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Etincelle, fondly known as Tinsel, is a dear calico girl with beautiful markings. I first saw Tinsel and her siblings, Thalia and Mozart, in my office parking lot last fall when they were scavenging for food with their mother, Noire, nearby the trash dumpster. After feeding them for a number of days, I decided to humanely trap them. Since becoming an indoor kitty girl, Tinsel has been spayed and received her initial vaccinations. She has been combo tested and is negative for both leukemia and feline immunodeficiency virus. She has just turned one year old. Tinsel loves to twirl and dance around me when I sit on the floor in her room. ... (Read More)She enjoys receiving pets and can be held for brief periods of time. Tinsel loves to play with a feather on a wand and she has learned to play with and give chase to kitty mice toys. Tinsel is litter box trained and accident free. She is quite graceful and resembles a ballerina as she walks lightly on her toes and often pirouettes around her room. She previously shared a room with her sister and now shares a rooms with two other rescue kitties. She is slightly built who is long and lean. If you would like to be this special kitty girl's human, please feel free to contact me. I do when possible like to receive a vet reference for potential adopters. (Less)

Animal ID: 14-12-08-00838Tornado Rosco (male)

Domestic Cat    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

He is totally adorable, very loving, friendly and healthy. We've had all of his vaccinations and neuter performed and he is also micro-chipped. The microchip can be registered in your name. Complete vet files available at your request upon adoption. We're not looking to collect an adoption fee we just want him to go to a good loving and caring home. He doesn't get into anything around the house, doesn't scratch any thing in the house, is 100% litter trained. He does like to sleep in one of our houseplants which is in a rather large pot but he's never fussed with any of the actual plants. He appeared after the tornado at the Oceanfront in ... (Read More)July, we posted 'found' flyers all around the city and no one has claimed him. Unfortunately we are not allowed to keep him and I do not want to have to relinquish him to a kitty prison aka kill shelter. Please respond as soon as possible if you're interested. Thank you!! UPDATE: He has since developed a spraying habit after being neutered and while he makes himself at home in the house quite nicely he would prefer to be an indoor/outdoor cat. He only sprays certain spots and has never sprayed any fabric furniture, he sprays a vertical wall near the door. It's a bad habit yes but he is otherwise an amazing cat. The spray doesn't have a noticeable smell until you clean it as it reacts with the cleaning product but quickly dissipates. The vet says he does it because he was previously outdoors when we found him and being able to go out would most likely resolve the issue since he only does it when he meows at the door and is prohibited from going out. I'm trying to be totally honest here so the right person who has it in their heart to give him a solid chance, one who is willing and able to offer him a loving forever home is informed. We can't let him outside here because he's not supposed to be here and that would blow his cover. We must find him a home ASAP because we have interior inspections coming up very soon. I'm extremely worried. We have had a lot of interest in him but unfortunately none of the environments checked out and we didn't think they were a good safe fit for him. Waiting for the right cat lover!! He is definitely a stealthy hunter but he is not a feral cat so if your idea of an outdoor cat is for him to live in a barn with feral cats to 'fend for himself' this is not the cat for you. We want him to be taken care of. Indoor/Outdoor is one thing, totally fend for himself amongst neglected feral barn cats is another. We absolutely LOVE this cat and want what's best for him. Please contact me if interested!! Thank you kindly. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Cat in Virginia
Cats can make good pets in Virginia if they match your IifestyIe. Domestic Cats have been intriguing companions for humans since ancient times. Worldwide, cats are even more popular than dogs as pets. Sadly, huge numbers of cats are in need of adoption and care. A cat owner who no longer wants the cat, or is no longer able to care for a cat, may drop the cat off at a shelter or simply abandon it. Overcrowding in shelters, along with too few adoptive families for the cats, leads to many wonderful pets having to be euthanized. Abandoned cats fend for themselves and breed in the wild, forming colonies of feral cats. Feral cats have such a difficult existence that they typically only live an average of two years, whereas domestic cats can live an average of twelve years with proper care. Organizations exist that can catch and tame feral kittens, and then place them in a home, but adult ferals can rarely be socialized to trust humans. Meanwhile, many prospective cat owners choose to purchase a kitten from a pet store or breeder, and may not know that even purebred cats and kittens are often available for adoption.

Once someone is ready for the responsibility of caring for a cat, adoption can be an incredibly rewarding decision. Adoption benefits cats, owners, and society alike. Adopting a cat is typically much less expensive than purchasing one. Shelters often have a wide selection of very sweet, friendly cats and kittens, including purebreds. Adoptive owners enjoy bonding with their pets, and have the extra satisfaction of knowing they have rescued a wonderful companion from a hard existence. Every cat adopted means one less cat has to be euthanized. Every kitten purchased new results in one less opportunity for adoption to take place. If you are ready for a pet cat, please consider adoption!

All domestic cats are descended from African wild cats. The cats in the Broadway show, Cats, were inspired by feral cats in London made famous as T.S. Eliot's Jellicle Cats.
