Animal ID: 14-0177Smokey (male)

Siamese    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Cats, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

If Smokey wasn't named Smokey, he would be named Cuddles. With fur glistening like black velvet, he loves romping after the toys in the community cat room. He is a cat that really likes buddies. But, there is another side to him. When it is time to dream, he longs for the warmth of security a sunny window would bring. A neutered male, gorgeous black Siamese domestic shorthair mix, he has a positive attitude and knows his forever home will happen for him soon. Can you please make his dreams come true? Smokey's adoption fee has been sponsored by a kind soul. Estimated 07/01/2013 All cats or kittens at the Prairie Paws Animal Shelter will be ... (Read More)tested for FELV / FIV before being sent home with their adopters. We do not adopt out any cats or kittens found to be positive. All cats and kittens are also up to date on their vaccines and have been or will be spayed or neutered before going to their new homes. These cats and kittens are also litter box trained. All information known about this cat has been included in this bio. If you are interested in this animal, please either email info@prairiepaws.org for an application, visit our website @ prairiepaws.org or call 785-242-2967. Here's the scoop on the adoption process: A hold may be placed on an animal for $20.00 a day up to 3 business days ($60.00 max). The hold fee is non refundable. We encourage folks that are interested in a certain animal to put down a hold fee (a credit card number may be given over the phone) to ensure the animal they are interested is available for their meet and greet. Putting the animal on hold makes it so others can not have a meet and greet with the said animal until the hold expires. Holds are on a first call/come first serve basis. You must call or come in, holds can not be put down via email. Please see below for our public hours. In person meet and greet - potential adopters must come and meet the animal before an adoption can take place. We can not do over the phone sight unseen adoptions. Because of financial constraints our days and hours vary. Business hours should be listed on website (www.prairiepaws.org) or at end this post. The adoption application must be filled out and approved. Adoption applications are available on our website or at the meet and greet. http://prairiepaws.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Cat-Adoption-Form.pdf If you have other pets, we call your vet to make sure their vaccinations are up to date. We can not approve the application until they are. It's great if you want to include current documentation on up to date vaccinations with your application. Speeds the process along. Once approval has been given an adoption fee must be paid in full - no partial payments. Adoption fees vary. Please note if you live in the city of Ottawa a dog license fee must also be paid. Taking your animal home - most of our animals will need to be spayed or neutered before we can allow them to be taken home (state requirement) so taking your new companion home on the day of the meet and greet is not usually an option. Cottonwood Animal Hospital does the sterilizations for us on Thursdays and Mondays. Date the procedure can be done depends on case load. Your animal must be picked up on the day of their surgery between 4:30pm and 6pm. The shelter is open to the public: Mon, Wed, Thurs 11-6 and Sat 11-4. If you are interested in this dog or puppy, please either email Prairie Paws Animal Shelter at info@prairiepaws.org, for an application visit our website @ prairiepaws.org or call 785.242.2967 for more information. Domestic Cat    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Cats, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Well hello there! I'm Sugar Magnolia, and I'm sweet as sugar and pretty as a magnolia tree (I think magnolia trees are pretty, right?). I enjoy the simple things in life, like my warm bed, playing with my friends in the Community Cat Room, and snuggling with the humans at Prairie Paws. I might not be the first cat to approach you when you walk in our room, but that's just because it takes me a few minutes to get used to any new visitors. Once I feel confident and comfortable in my surroundings, let the purring begin! I will be happy to stroll on over to you so you can pet me. I'm a laid back lady looking for the right person who can give me ... (Read More)my forever home, where I can spend my days eating, sleeping, and getting lots of love. Are you my person? Rescue Me ID: 15-04-16-00141Munson(Willie Nelson) (male)

Domestic Cat    Age: Young Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Munson was about 7 months old when he came into the shelter in November 2013. He was quickly adopted and loved dearly by his family, but he was just too interested in their baby so he is now back with us; he would do better in a home with older kids. He is a lovely cat, ready to explore and play, but just as content to receive affection or have someone watch him eat. Munson got his name because he was found near the health center. His former family renamed him Willy Nelson. Call 913-684-4939 or email ftleavenworthstrayfacility@gmail.com.

Domestic Cat    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Cats, Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Ivy is a gorgeous girl who knows just how beautiful she is! She's a bit of a diva. She wants love and affection when she wants it, and when she's done she wants to be left alone. She is the true epitome of a cat. Because of this we don't recommend her around small kids who might not recognize her signs of frustration. She is not the first time cat owners kind of cat. She needs someone who is well versed in recognizing her signs that she's done with attention and affection. She needs to be the only cat in the home but she does get along with dogs. She is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, feLV negative, dewormed and up to date on flea/tick ... (Read More)prevention. Domestic Cat    Age: Young Kitten

Compatibility: Good with Most Cats, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Maestro is a 4-5 month old, long hair, sweet boy. He is shy at first but once he warms up he's not afraid to demand your attention ad love! He likes chasing string and romping around like a fierce jungle cat, but when he's tired he'll come looking for your lap to lay in. Because he's shy he would do best in a quieter home without a lot of chaos that might upset or scare him. He hasn't been around dogs yet and seems ok around other cats. He'll need someone patient who is willing to put in the time to win him over. Neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, feLV negative, dewormed and up to date on flea/tick prevention. $80 adoption fee.     My family has gone through an upheaval due to medical crisis of an elderly parent and a death of another and changes in housing situations. I am trying to find loving homes for family pets and I know from past experience that black cats are not always easy to rehome, but I am hoping that by posting here I can find someone who loves these beauties, some cat loving individual who can see the panther-like exotic beauty of black cats and know how loving their temperament can be. Raised solely indoors, never around dogs. Is amicable to most adults although initially shy around strangers as not a lot of visitors were around.

PIease Read Before Adopting a Cat in Kansas
Cats can make good pets in Kansas if they match your IifestyIe. Domestic Cats have been intriguing companions for humans since ancient times. Worldwide, cats are even more popular than dogs as pets. Sadly, huge numbers of cats are in need of adoption and care. A cat owner who no longer wants the cat, or is no longer able to care for a cat, may drop the cat off at a shelter or simply abandon it. Overcrowding in shelters, along with too few adoptive families for the cats, leads to many wonderful pets having to be euthanized. Abandoned cats fend for themselves and breed in the wild, forming colonies of feral cats. Feral cats have such a difficult existence that they typically only live an average of two years, whereas domestic cats can live an average of twelve years with proper care. Organizations exist that can catch and tame feral kittens, and then place them in a home, but adult ferals can rarely be socialized to trust humans. Meanwhile, many prospective cat owners choose to purchase a kitten from a pet store or breeder, and may not know that even purebred cats and kittens are often available for adoption.

Once someone is ready for the responsibility of caring for a cat, adoption can be an incredibly rewarding decision. Adoption benefits cats, owners, and society alike. Adopting a cat is typically much less expensive than purchasing one. Shelters often have a wide selection of very sweet, friendly cats and kittens, including purebreds. Adoptive owners enjoy bonding with their pets, and have the extra satisfaction of knowing they have rescued a wonderful companion from a hard existence. Every cat adopted means one less cat has to be euthanized. Every kitten purchased new results in one less opportunity for adoption to take place. If you are ready for a pet cat, please consider adoption!

lnteresting Cat Trivia Low-Cost Kansas Spay & Neuter Clinics
All domestic cats are descended from African wild cats. Cats were considered divine in ancient Egypt and are depicted in hieroglyphs and found mummified in the tombs of Pharaohs. The cats in the Broadway show, Cats, were inspired by feral cats in London made famous as T.S. Eliot's Jellicle Cats. Cats were incredibly popular in ancient Rome; Rome may have been spared from plague outbreaks due to its huge population of feral cats keeping the rat population under control. Today, Rome has the largest number of feral cats of any city in the worldabout 300,000 felines!
