Domestic Cat    Age: Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hillary is a pretty, short haired calico cat, 8 or 9 years old. My Dad adopted her from Olathe Animal Shelter in January, 2008 when she was full grown but of unknown age. Last year my Dad passed away. I brought Hillary into my home with my 4 cats but she has not adjusted to living with other cats. She needs to be in a home where she is the only cat. She is healthy, has all her shots and is front declawed. She enjoyed sitting with my Dad and now me for short periods of time. She also likes to go outside in my backyard which has a privacy fence and she has never attempted to leave the yard. I believe she would do best in a home without small ... (Read More)children. I hate to let her go but know it is best for her and best for my cats if I find her a nice home. She will be a great companion for the right person. Please call 913-488-3007 or email llowery1@kc.rr.com. Thanks very much. (Less)

Domestic Cat    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Cats, Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Yep, he's a 20-pound cat. But he is loving all the playtime he is getting and climbs with ease and runs after toys like lightning so he should be more svelte in no time. This guy is a charmer, gives affectionate head bumps and leg rubs for more attention. Confident personality. We are told he used to be a bit catty at times, but we must be lucky to be seeing his best side. He is a delight! Really a fun and affectionate feline companion. 3 years old. Relinquished due to overseas move.

Domestic Cat    Age: Young Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Call 913-684-4939/1669 or email ftleavenworthstrayfacility@gmail.com. This guy is a little shy but seems appreciative of affection. Unfortunately is also a little unpredictable, but that has probably been due to pain -- he is now being treated for some painful urinary crystals and is already showing us he is a kinder, steadier dude when he is feeling better. 5 years old. Described as affectionate, calm, friendly, gentle, happy, independent, loving, playful, purr machine on his intake form. Said to also do well with kids, rides in the car well, afraid of dogs. Relinquished so he can receive proper care that former family could not afford.

I was saying to myself just this morning, Adonis, I said, Adonis, you know what you need? You need a person all your own. So I sat down to write this post for the nice Prairie Paws Animal Shelter folk, because apparently that's the kind of thing they do - find nice people for extremely intelligent and lovable, kitties who are...I shudder to type this...LAPLESS. That's right: I have no lap to call my own. Could you be persuaded to volunteer yours? I'll help you make hilarious cat videos that go viral. Estimated DOB is 03/02/2014. All cats or kittens at the Prairie Paws Animal Shelter will be tested for FELV / FIV before being sent home with ... (Read More)their adopters. We do not adopt out any cats or kittens found to be positive. All cats and kittens are also up to date on their vaccines and have been or will be spayed or neutered before going to their new homes. These cats and kittens are also litter box trained. All information known about this cat has been included in this bio. If you are interested in this animal, please either email info@prairiepaws.org for an application, visit our website @ prairiepaws.org or call 785-242-2967. Here's the scoop on the adoption process: A hold may be placed on an animal for $20.00 a day up to 3 business days ($60.00 max). The hold fee is non refundable. We encourage folks that are interested in a certain animal to put down a hold fee (a credit card number may be given over the phone) to ensure the animal they are interested is available for their meet and greet. You may put down a 1 day hold for $20.00 without an approved application but anything longer than that we will need an approved application on file. Putting the animal on hold makes it so others can not have a meet and greet with the said animal until the hold expires. Holds are on a first call/come first serve basis. You must call or come in, holds can not be put down via email. You must also submit an adoption application for the cat for any hold over 1 day. Please see below for our public hours. In person meet and greet - potential adopters must come and meet the animal before an adoption can take place. We can not do over the phone sight unseen adoptions. Because of financial constraints our days and hours vary. Business hours should be listed on website (www.prairiepaws.org) or at end this post. The adoption application must be filled out and approved. Adoption applications are available on our website or at the meet and greet. http://prairiepaws.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Cat-Adoption-Form.pdf If you have other pets, we call your vet to make sure their vaccinations are up to date. We can not approve the application until they are. It's great if you want to include current documentation on up to date vaccinations with your application. Speeds the process along. Once approval has been given an adoption fee must be paid in full - no partial payments. Adoption fees vary. Please note if you live in the city of Ottawa a dog license fee must also be paid. Taking your animal home - all cats and dogs must be sterilized (spayed/neutered) before going to their new homes, it is a state requirement. In most cases animals will have already been sterilized before hitting the adoption floor and you will be available to take your new companion home with you the day of adoption with an approved application. Animal ID: 14-0769Hannah *Sponsored* (female)

American Shorthair Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Cats, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hullo dahlings! I'm Hannah, and I have very strong views on the proper habitat for my gorgeousness, which involve hovering servants (you), a warm spot to rest on (your lap), and luxurious accommodations (your bed). I enjoy the company of cats, I don't really know what a dog is. I do know I enjoy a good romp through the crinkly tunnel now and then. Estimated DOB is 05/05/2011. Her adoption fee has been sponsored by a kind soul. All cats or kittens at the Prairie Paws Animal Shelter will be tested for FELV / FIV before being sent home with their adopters. We do not adopt out any cats or kittens found to be positive. All cats and kittens ... (Read More)are also up to date on their vaccines and have been or will be spayed or neutered before going to their new homes. The shelter is open to the public: Mon, Wed, Thurs 11-6 and Sat 11-4. If you are interested in this dog or puppy, please either email Prairie Paws Animal Shelter at info@prairiepaws.org, for an application visit our website @ prairiepaws.org or call 785.242.2967 for more information. Siamese    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Cats, Not Good w/ Dogs, Good w/ Adult Men Only
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Murphy bonded with my husband when he was a kitten so he only likes men. I have been his caregiver so he tolerates me but only for that reason. He is declawed on all paws so he doesn't scratch and he must be inside. He does not attack people he's just cranky, and he wasn' t raised around children so he doesn't particularly like them. I have struggled with this and I am just tired of taking care of a cat that will never like me. Thank you.

Domestic Cat    Age: Young Kitten

I am one ornery girl! I rough and tumble with kittens twice my age and my size and I hold my own! I love playing with toys, lasers pointers, other kittens or really anything that moves. I might come curl up in your lap when I'm tired, but when I'm on the hunt, don't try to hold me down! My foster mom is always raving about how soft I am. I've been around dogs and other cats, but I'm young enough that as long as you make an experience a positive one, I'll be socialized to anything! I'm not quite available for adoption yet but, you can put me on hold for $40 and after I'm sterilized and vaccinated you can pay the other $40 and take me home! I ...     I've got a weird shaped nose and weird set eyes, but my foster mom says I'm cute anyways! I'm always up for adventure and meeting new people. I've got a bubbly personality and don't take much time to adjust- I tend to just go with the flow. I grew up with several small kids who were always noisy and running through the house. Not to mention several dogs and other cats, I've been very well socialized! I love playing with my siblings and toys and can make a game out of anything.

Isn't my nose just the cutest?! My foster mom is always raving about my tail too. She says it's just adorable that I have the tiniest white tip at the end. She's always making a fuss over me and telling me how cute I am. I'm kind of shy and need time to settle in. Being with my siblings helps give me confidence and I love playing with them. Maybe you could take two of us? I've been around small kids, dogs and cats.

PIease Read Before Adopting a Cat in Kansas
Cats can make good pets in Kansas if they match your IifestyIe. Domestic Cats have been intriguing companions for humans since ancient times. Worldwide, cats are even more popular than dogs as pets. Sadly, huge numbers of cats are in need of adoption and care. A cat owner who no longer wants the cat, or is no longer able to care for a cat, may drop the cat off at a shelter or simply abandon it. Overcrowding in shelters, along with too few adoptive families for the cats, leads to many wonderful pets having to be euthanized. Abandoned cats fend for themselves and breed in the wild, forming colonies of feral cats. Feral cats have such a difficult existence that they typically only live an average of two years, whereas domestic cats can live an average of twelve years with proper care. Organizations exist that can catch and tame feral kittens, and then place them in a home, but adult ferals can rarely be socialized to trust humans. Meanwhile, many prospective cat owners choose to purchase a kitten from a pet store or breeder, and may not know that even purebred cats and kittens are often available for adoption.

Once someone is ready for the responsibility of caring for a cat, adoption can be an incredibly rewarding decision. Adoption benefits cats, owners, and society alike. Adopting a cat is typically much less expensive than purchasing one. Shelters often have a wide selection of very sweet, friendly cats and kittens, including purebreds. Adoptive owners enjoy bonding with their pets, and have the extra satisfaction of knowing they have rescued a wonderful companion from a hard existence. Every cat adopted means one less cat has to be euthanized. Every kitten purchased new results in one less opportunity for adoption to take place. If you are ready for a pet cat, please consider adoption!

All domestic cats are descended from African wild cats. The cats in the Broadway show, Cats, were inspired by feral cats in London made famous as T.S. Eliot's Jellicle Cats.
