Bengal    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Vaccinations Current

Beautiful Bengal adopted a year and a half ago who must find a new home. Coat is a silky brown with both spots and stripes. He is a very nice guy who is most comfortable with a set routine. He is very affectionate, on his terms, of course! He did start to display dominant behavior after six months, but this has been resolved and he is back to normal. However I would not recommend him to a household with children (or birds!). He is altered and has all his claws and immunizations are current.

She loves being held, scratched, ... (Read More)stroked and petted. She does not like being caged up and kept in my bathroom and prefers being where ever I am. She seems to have no trouble being around my other two domestic cats, but they do mind her and are not receptive towards her at all. Squeak does like to talk and purrs up a storm. She is very sweet and would be a wonderful companion in a single or multiple human household. I do not want to say goodbye to her, as I think she is absolutely adorable, but I must find her a new home. Please contact me asap for further information. Picture will be added to this post tonight. Paxton loves to be itched and enjoys belly rubs. He is a huge love bug and is hoping his charm will win over someone's heart. Please don't let his FIV status stop you from considering him.     Hi, my name is Seymour! I was found on July 8th in sunset hills, MO. The lady that found me posted flyers around the area, called local humane societies and vets and posted me on stllostpets.com. I was never able to find my owner. I am fully vetted and microchipped. I have my own room with lots of toys and scratching posts, since the lady that rescued me is allergic to me. I'm about 1 year old, and love to play. I will allow you to hold me like a baby and rub my belly for a minute or so. I love to play with toys and use my scratching post. I've never had an issue with using my litter box since I was found. He likes to be ... (Read More)petted but also likes his independence. He's not a huge talker and does have claws but doesn't really use them. He is a good boy but can play rough at times so he would be best in a home without children. I have had him around my mini schnauzer, which is his size and he does ok. He will sometimes roll on his back and play with her or rub against her and other times he will want to stalk her and run up to her then run away. He has not been around other cats or big dogs at this time. If you have any question about possibly adopting him please email me atansp14@yahoo.com. Thank you for giving a rescue cat a chance in a Furever home. (Less)

Spike is a very sweet senior boy whose human (my sister, who lived with us) passed away in October 2013. In addition to Spike, she left Figaro, another male senior, and Janie, a senior female. Domestic Cat    Age: Young Adult

Semi-Feral, Cat-Loving Feline Needs a Loving Guardian... Petra is a gorgeous, three-year-old, female brown and white classic tabby with golden eyes looking for a loving guardian. Petra was being fed outside and she was very consistent about showing up at the same place and same time every day. In fact, she would meow persistently. A friend told me about this beautiful and special cat. I went to meet her and took her home (in a trap). When I brought her in to get spayed, I found that she had trapped a couple times before ... so she had already been spayed and micro-chipped. So, I got her vaccines up-dated, and had her re-checked for viruses, ... (Read More)and treated for fleas and worms. Petra doesn't have much use for humans. She likes when they keep her well-fed ... she loves her canned food. And she's very neat and tidy and uses her litter box perfectly. She does enjoy the company of other cats and hangs out with them happily in my house ... until I come in the room. And, then she goes back to her cat tree to hide. It's a bit insulting, but I think a patient cat-loving person can bring her around to appreciating humans a bit more. Petra is extremely healthy, spayed, up-to-date on rabies and distemper vaccines, micro-chipped, virus-tested negative and treated with revolution for fleas and worms. To meet and possibly adopt Petra, please contact me directly at sheri@petraits.com or 773-777-2891. She is currently living in the Andersonville neighborhood of Chicago. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Cat in Illinois
Cats can make good pets in Illinois if they match your IifestyIe. Domestic Cats have been intriguing companions for humans since ancient times. Worldwide, cats are even more popular than dogs as pets. Sadly, huge numbers of cats are in need of adoption and care. A cat owner who no longer wants the cat, or is no longer able to care for a cat, may drop the cat off at a shelter or simply abandon it. Overcrowding in shelters, along with too few adoptive families for the cats, leads to many wonderful pets having to be euthanized. Abandoned cats fend for themselves and breed in the wild, forming colonies of feral cats. Feral cats have such a difficult existence that they typically only live an average of two years, whereas domestic cats can live an average of twelve years with proper care. Organizations exist that can catch and tame feral kittens, and then place them in a home, but adult ferals can rarely be socialized to trust humans. Meanwhile, many prospective cat owners choose to purchase a kitten from a pet store or breeder, and may not know that even purebred cats and kittens are often available for adoption.

Once someone is ready for the responsibility of caring for a cat, adoption can be an incredibly rewarding decision. Adoption benefits cats, owners, and society alike. Adopting a cat is typically much less expensive than purchasing one. Shelters often have a wide selection of very sweet, friendly cats and kittens, including purebreds. Adoptive owners enjoy bonding with their pets, and have the extra satisfaction of knowing they have rescued a wonderful companion from a hard existence. Every cat adopted means one less cat has to be euthanized. Every kitten purchased new results in one less opportunity for adoption to take place. If you are ready for a pet cat, please consider adoption!
