Domestic Cat    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Cats, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, FIV

Rex (about 5 years old as of March, 2015) is a neutered male brown tabby short-haired cat. Rex was trapped, neutered, and returned to a feral colony last summer but was very friendly and decided he needed to be inside- he kept trying to run into his caretaker's house and wouldn't take no for an answer. Now Rex is readjusting to life as an indoor pet in his new foster home but is very happy and purrs when petted. He's nervous when we take him out and will even give a little hiss but he doesn't mean it and we think it will get better with time as he becomes confident that he'll be taken care of from now on. Rex is FIV positive but very ... (Read More)healthy, however due to the risk of transmission of the virus through bite wounds he would need a very slow and closely supervised introduction into a home with any other FIV negative cats. He gets along very well with other cats in his foster home. (Less)

Domestic Cat    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Lila (about 2 years as of March, 2015) is a spayed female black short haired cat. Lila was found and taken into foster care with her five baby kittens. She wasn't the most feral mama cat we've seen but she was definitely protective of them and we weren't really sure if she'd be friendly enough for adoption herself or being returned outdoors when the kittens had grown. Thankfully she has made great progress and is much better now that her kittens have been adopted. Lila can be picked up and held but doesn't volunteer to jump in laps just yet. She does however follow her foster mom all around the house rubbing on her legs and everything else. ... (Read More)She will probably be shy with new people and places but once she gets comfortable she is a very loving and affectionate little kitty. She can get along fine with other cats but hasn't bonded closely to anyone in her foster home so we think she could be just as happy as part of a small cat family or as a spoiled only cat. (Less)

Animal ID: 15-03-23-00325Chandler (male)

Domestic Cat    Age: Young Kitten

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Chandler (about 5 months old as of 3/21) is a neutered male with with brown tabby shorthaired kitten. Chandler survived most of the cold winter outside and was caught with his brother Joey and friendly mom Phoebe when he was about 4 months old. He was pretty feral and the prognosis for him being tamed wasn't great, but perhaps because his mommy set such a good example we were lucky and Chandler has come very far his first month in foster care. He still gets started sometimes but for the most part he acts like a normal kitten who had been born inside. He likes being petted and can be held for long times when the mood strikes him. He's very ... (Read More)energetic and can be a little domineering with other cats so he'd be best with another young, energetic cat who will enjoy his antics and possibly keep him from bugging less interested older or crabbier pets. He's being fostered with dogs and is quickly learning to love them, too! (Less)

Petunia is a gorgeous, gentle, sweet, playful, affectionate and fun, four-year-old, female, green-eyed, plush patch tabby cat looking for a loving guardian. Petunia was found stray in the Austin neighborhood of Chicago with bloody gaping wounds on her chest. She was brought to Chicago Animal Care and Control and was almost euthanized before the Friends of Animal Care and Control stepped in to get her the medical care she required. Perhaps Petunia knows how lucky she is. She purrs and purrs and is very talkative. She loves everyone, people of all ages, as well as other cats; she is not shy at all. She's beautiful and loves admiring herself ... (Read More)in the mirror. She rubs lovingly against your legs. Petunia is now very healthy, spayed, up-to-date on vaccines, micro-chipped and virus-tested. Her adoption fee of $95 benefits the rescued pets of Friends of Chicago Animal Care and Control. Domestic Cat    Age: Young Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

My handsome Tico. His time to find a new forever home is here. As much as we love each other and want to never part we both new from the start our relationship will be a short lived one. For you see I have another tom'| and Tico deserves so much better then to play a second fiddle. When you first meet Tico you'd be surprised by his size. For he truly is a huge boy. But what that really means is more room for your hands to play with his soft fur and more warmth in your lap. This winter was manageable just because he never missed an opportunity to cuddle up next to me and launch me into a cozy land. Yes my handsome baby is a very cuddly and ... (Read More)affectionate cat when it comes to humans. Not as much when we talk about other species. Like dogs for example. I guess his size makes him a target of everyone jealousy. And since he is a noble cat he never rejects an invitation for a duel. Other cats are hit and miss. Tico like some but not others and it's kind of hard to predict what his final judgment would be. So we think he'd do best in a home alone situation or with a young cat for he seems to enjoy a father figure role. Come meet Tico and you'll never be alone again! (Less)

Domestic Cat    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Cats, Not Good w/ Dogs, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Taylor was brought to Chicago Animal Control by someone who said they found her on the street. Like a lot of other pets she was absolutely devastated by all the smells and sounds of a pound. She immediately stopped eating and her demeanor earned her a tag of an unsocial cat. Lucky for our gorgeous girl a foster stepped up and we were able to save her. But Taylor's fight was far from over. It took her 2 months to get back on her feet. During that time her foster Mom realized what is a no-no for this beauty queen. Taylor hates cages, crates and anything that limits her freedom. Once this was learned and Taylor was given space of her own, her ... (Read More)healing followed quickly. Taylor is one of those ladies that are more talk then walk. In other words she likes to hiss and growl but her behavior does not follow her vocal expression. In fact she is a very cuddly and affectionate girl. Taylor currently lives in a household with other cats but we believe she would do best on her own. And no dogs or small children either - our queen wishes to be the only one getting your attention. In return Taylor promises to purr and knead, sleep in your bed and walk by your side with a tail high in the air, proud to have you as her own. And she will help in anything you might feel like doing, except when she is occupied by doing her cat stuff of course. Taylor is a young girl, we are guessing her birthday is around June 16th 2012. She is currently fostered in Champaign-Urbana area but we are willing to bring her to your home for a meet and greet. Taylor is microchipped and up to date on her vaccines.     Phoebe was brought to Chicago Animal Control with her 4 kittens. Dubbed 4 seasons for a variety of color they were quickly scooped up. Unfortunately Mom was left behind to languish in a cage. When we heard her story we moved quickly to save our lovely Phoebe. Initially Phoebe felt very depressed and worried about the fate of her kittens. Soon she started claiming and protecting every kitten that came close. We kept reassuring her that her babies are doing fine (all survived and are looking for forever homes - we checked!) and with time her heart healed. Rescue Me ID: 15-03-18-00302Donna Dave (female)

Domestic Cat    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Adult Women Only
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

Donna Day and her best friend were initially brought to Chicago Animal Care and Control by their owners who couldn't keep them. They were housed together in a cage but somehow Donna escaped. When a rescue came for them they took her best friend and she stayed behind. For few weeks she managed to find food and hide so well that everyone thought she was completely lost. Eventually hunger won over and she walked into trap. But now she was all alone, the place seemed even scarier and there was not much hope. Lucky for her we knew her story from the beginning and moved quickly to get her out. We can only guess what Donna's history is and what ... (Read More)experience made her fearful and shy with strangers. But we can assure you that waiting for her to adjust is worthwhile. She will most likely hide in new surroundings for some time. It took her few weeks to calm down at her foster's place and show her real affectionate face. But once she feels assured no one will harm her and relaxes with all the new smells and sounds she will come to seek your attention. A soft touch of a paw, gentle rub of a cheek, a little whisper of a meow - that's the real Donna Day. And from our experience with shy kitties, once you win her over you will have a faithful companion for years to come. On the other hand Donna does fine with other cats and nice, well behaved dogs. Donna is a young girl, we are guessing her birthday is around March 2nd 2013. She is currently fostered in Champaign-Urbana area but we are willing to bring her to your home for a meet and greet. Donna is microchipped and up to date on her vaccines. Her adoption fee of $95 benefits our rescued pets. For more information on Donna contact azraelsplace@hotmail.com or 708-218-4501 (Less)

Domestic Cat    Age: Kitten

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Sammy is an utter love. He likes sleeping with you so he can soak up the love whenever you wake up. Sometimes he will crawl under the blanket with you. Sammy also has a playful side. He will run around playing with cat toys. He prefers the cloth ones that he can carry around. It is funny watching him pick up a toy and carry it behind a box to "hide" it from the other cats. Sammy had a rough start in life as a stray taken to a high kill shelter. While he has adjusted well to life with people, he will be shy until he gets to know you. If you give him a couple of days to adjust, you won't be disappointed.

Rootbeer (about 5 months old as of 3/10) is a neutered male brown tabby shorthaired kitten. Rootbeer was born outside last October and trapped as a freezing little 10 week old with a littermate right before New Year's. Because they were a few weeks older than ideal it has taken them time to gain confidence with people, but Rootbeer loves cheek scratches and has an amazingly loud motor when you get him purring.     Tammy is an adorable, happy and friendly, 18-month-old, female, orange-spotted white cat with golden/green eyes looking for a loving guardian. Tammy was rescued from Chicago Animal Care and Control. She is absolutely one of the most perfect cats I have ever met.     Wally (roughly 2 years old as of February, 2015) is a neutered male flame point and white shorthaired cat. Wally was trapped shortly after the big blizzard of February 1st and is obviously a very friendly cat that had no business being out in the snow. They will also come running for treats if they hear the crumple of a bag. Despite their love of food neither kitty is particularly overweight. Bandit and Pirate are gentle souls who adore each other, being pet, rolling in catnip and jumping for a toy wand. They are masters of killing any fly that manages to sneak into the home. The boys are healthy, neutered, de-wormed, micro-chipped, up-to-date on vaccines, and virus-tested. Bandit and Pirate have had recent dentals and have very few teeth left. Rescue Me ID: 15-02-24-00517Che & Kate (male)

Domestic Cat    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Cats, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered

Kate and Che, are a bonded pair of very shy tabby cats looking for a loving guardian. Found living together in a barn, Kate and Che were rescued and have adapted appreciatively to the warmth and relaxation of indoor condo life. They are best friends often found snuggling or nesting together in their foster home. While they are not necessarily snuggly with humans, they are looking for someone who will enjoy their company without wanting petable/huggable companion felines. Che is a four-year-old hunk of a long, sleek, male tabby with enormous soulful eyes and a big presence who loves to lounge on the sofa or hang out on the cat tree. He has ... (Read More)a super-mellow nature, and avoids confrontation from other cats. He's really just a big teddy bear that wants nothing more than a peaceful life. He loves food; whenever he hears a can being opened in the morning and evening, he pads to the kitchen and lies patiently by the door to make sure he's not forgotten (as if!). Kate is a 10-year-old petite female tabby with an endearing pixie face and the cutest white socks. Kate is coming out of her shell more each day and likes to explore her surroundings. She enjoys hanging out on the sofa grooming Che; she's a cougar! I understand from their foster mom that when an annoying photographer is not around, they are completely relaxed and happy. These two are well-mannered in the home, use their litter box and scratching posts like good kitties. They get along with other felines in the home. And, while they are not currently living with dogs, they'd probably be fine with a dog that didn't chase them. Kate and Che are not at all aggressive with people, or with other cats. When nervous, they retreat or hide rather than scratch or bite. They are neutered/spayed, up-to-date on vaccines, micro-chipped and virus-tested. Kate had a dental and only has about three teeth left. Their adoption fee of $75 as a pair benefits the rescued pets of Azrael's Place. To meet and possibly adopt Kate and Che, please contact Lana at azraelsplace@hotmail.com or 708-218-4501. This duo is currently being fostered in Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood. (Less)

Turkish Van Mix    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Most Cats, Not Good with Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Please Share '| Chicago, IL - Adopt Tigger Skeets the Front-Declawed Bi-Eyed Cat Tigger Skeets is a roly poly, 18-pound, 13-year-old, male front-declawed Van Pattern cat with one blue eye and one gold eye looking for a loving guardian. Tigger was found inside a Calumet City trailer when his 65-year-old human mom passed away. He was living with another cat and a rabbit. The other cat has recently found a wonderful new home, and sadly, the rabbit had already died when his mom went into the hospital and no one was caring for her pets. When I brought Tigger home, the poor guy was in mourning for his mom. He just laid in a litter box ... (Read More)howling sadly for three days without eating or drinking. Luckily he bounced back after that. Tigger has adjusted to living with my other cats, but he could just as happily be the one and only cat in your life. He really doesn't like my dogs at all. And, I think he's just fine with rabbits. Tigger loves people so much that he rubs up against you and follows you around lovingly chatting the whole time. When you love on him, he rolls on his back for a tummy rub. He can only take so much tummy rubbing so you have to watch out for a little nip. Tigger uses his litter box perfectly like a good boy. Due to his roly-poly-ness, he certainly doesn't get up on your countertops. But, he does enjoy joining you in bed for snuggling if he has some pet steps to help him climb. Tigger is a healthy senior, neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, micro-chipped, virus-tested and he even had blood-work and a urinalysis done. His adoption fee of $50 benefits rescued pets. He is currently living with me in Chicago's Andersonville neighborhood. To meet and possibly adopt Tigger, please contact me at sheri@petraits.com or 773-777-2891l (Less)

Domestic Cat    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Cats
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Adorable adoptable Stanley has come a long way in a short time. It's amazing what a loving foster home can do! Here is a little bit about Stanley from his foster family: He has come such a long way in such a short amount of time. When I first found him, he was timid and scared and a little untrusting (which is understandable since he was living on the street, being beat up by other cats and not used to having a loving family.) But NOW he follows me around the house as soon as I let him out of his room when I get home until the time he goes to bed. He loves being around people but maintains the perfect amount of independence (he's not ... (Read More)being needy, just really friendly.) My male 9-year old cat, Bobo and Stanley have become good pals. They haven't worked up to cuddling together yet (but it wouldn't surprise me at all if that were to happen sooner than later.) However, they play all the time together. Stanley also respects Bobo when he's playing on his own. Stanley has never had an issue with our 45 lb. pitbull. Actually I think he likes her! She gives him lots of space and respect, so that might be why he's so comfortable around her. Overall, I think Stanley would thrive in either a house with or without other animals. He's very young and adaptive to his surroundings. Stanley is a great eater, super playful and the perfect amount of friendly/independent. He doesn't try to escape the house and seems perfectly content and happy now. He even makes this adorable little squeak when he's trying to tell you he's ready for some lovin'. Which is when I know it's time to scoop him up and shower him with kisses:) (Less)

Compatibility: Good with Most Cats
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Sonia is a calico with gorgeous markings that is about 3 years old. She loves to play with kittens and take care of them, she is very motherly! Sonia is a crazy fun cat and if you watch her video you will know why we adore her. She was at a high-rate kill shelter and quickly became all the volunteers favorite cat. So much so that one of the volunteers took her home and decided to foster her in a home environment. The shelter was just too boring of a place for this clever girl, she needed more space to run, play, and explore! Sonia is absolutely amazing, she is such a funny cat that is super smart. She isn't going to be a lap cat - she ... (Read More)thinks they are rather dull and would rather be playing with you or with a kitten. She will play with you ALL THE TIME! She LOVES kittens, especially rambunctious ones and we are hoping someone that is looking for a kitten might consider taking her home with them too. Sonia would probably be best in a home without small children or dogs for now. She needs an adopter that understands that she would rather play with you than be cuddled with. She loves being around people, she just wants affection on her own terms. Please come meet Sonia, she is absolutely gorgeous and has so much personality. She needs a home of her own so she can get all the play time she wants! Sonia's adoption fee of $95 includes her spay, deworming, virus testing (all negative), age-appropriate shots, and microchip and registration. **The address listed in the video is not her current address.     Peekaboo has not had an easy life so far. She was surrendered to animal control by her owners who stated she was afraid of their dog and always hiding.     Ernie is a very sweet and talkative nine-year-old, 11-pound, male seal point Siamese cat with icy blue eyes looking for a loving guardian. Ernie's human 87-year-old dad passed away and he was left at home with him until his body was discovered. Poor Ernie was devastated and when I brought him home he didn't eat or drink for days. Finally after almost two months in my home, he's finally relaxed. He's an easy-going guy who spends his days hanging out on a cat tree and watching out the window. Ernie's eye sight might not be the best so he'll hiss when you first approach him, but he has never scratched or bit. He leans into you lovingly ... (Read More)and loves to be pet. If you sit on the floor near him, he'll run over to sit in your lap. As far as I know, Ernie has always lived as the one and only pet in the home. He certainly does not like dogs, but has adjusted grudgingly to life with other gentle natured cats in my home. Ernie is healthy, neutered, up-to-date on rabies and distemper vaccines, micro-chipped and virus-tested. He even had a full urinalysis and blood test. Ernie has all his claws and he can not be de-clawed. His adoption fee of $50 benefits rescued pets. He is being fostered in Chicago's Andersonville neighborhood.     Holly (about 7 months as of 3/15/15) is a spayed female black tuxedo long haired kitten. Holly is part of a massive triple litter born to three friendly female cats that were abandoned by their owners last spring. Unfortunately unlike their outgoing moms, these little ones didn't have much human contact until they were over 3 months old, so Holly is still a little shy around new people and new places. Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered

Mauci (pronounced Mouse-ee) has been a fairly quiet, mostly docile cat all his life. He is feral and came to us as a month old kitten. Had problems with crystals in his urine, but had a sex-change operation at 2 years of age which solved the problem. Lately he has been aggressive to his owner, an 89-year old woman. This behavior is rare, but too much for an elderly person to handle. Mauci is so sweet it would be a shame to have to shorten his life over this behavior. I am sure someone out there could work with him and give him a few more dignified years. PLEASE HELP!

Zen is shy at first and not one to come out to meet strangers, but once you've earned her trust, she loves you. She certainly doesn't mind being picked up and cuddled. And, she'd never think of hissing, biting or growling; she's all things Zen. She loves to be brushed and she's talkative, especially when she's ... (Read More)hungry or wants attention. Other cats stress Zen out, so she's looking for a home as the one and only pet. Zen is spayed, front-declawed, up-to-date on vaccines, virus-tested and micro-chipped. Domestic Cat    Age: Kitten

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Very High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Tig was as a bottle baby whose mother was never located. His birthday is 9/2/14. He is a short-haired grey tabby tuxedo. He is very playful, fearless & adventurous. He would do good in an experienced cat home or with another cat to play with & help teach him manners. We would not recommend younger children as he plays roughly & play bites hard. He is getting better as he gets older. He has a high energy level. He can be very affectionate at times & we believe he will outgrow some of his roughness. He needs a patient & understanding family while he figures out how to play nicer.

Mango and Mustard are a pair of amazingly gorgeous, cuddly, playful and sweet, daddy and daughter tabbies looking for a loving guardian - preferably together. This pair was found stray and brought to Chicago Animal Care and Control. They were lucky to have found a wonderful foster home together to start their new life together. They both share the same bunny-soft fur which makes petting and cuddling so much fun. They also purr and purr which is so encouraging and sweet. They are well-behaved in the home and use ... (Read More)their litter box and scratching post like good kitties. They currently reside in the Logan Square neighborhood of Chicago and live happily with three medium-sized dogs and one other cat. They love to spend their time entertaining each other and then resting on the windowsill or on your lap. Both kitties are very healthy, spayed/neutered, micro-chipped, up-to-date on vaccines, de-wormed and virus-tested. Their adoption fee of $95 each benefits the Friends of Chicago Animal Care and Control. To meet and possibly adopt Mustard and/or Mango, please contact Kirsten at ktour@hotmail.com or 773-263-3803. Their history '| Sadly, Mango and Mustard didn't start out life quite so happy. When they were brought to CACC, it was assumed it was a mom with her three tiny babies. They fed Mustard the adult assuming he was a mom nursing babies. However, it didn't occur to anyone that it was a dad with his young and incapable of nursing. The babies tried nursing and two babies died before Mango and Mustard were transferred to a foster home. Mango, the strongest baby survived 10 days at the shelter without eating. She made up for lost time by eating a lot in her foster home. However, she appeared to have an upper respiratory infection and went back to the vet repeatedly and was prescribed multiple antibiotics. Finally, she was brought to another vet who diagnosed her with a nasal polyp, a growth possibly due to a viral infection she picked up at the shelter. After surgery she is finally healthy and happy. She may always be small and kitten-ish looking due to her challenging kitten-hood. You may also notice that one of Mango's pupil's looks larger than the other. That is due to her recent surgery and may return to normal after healing. In any case, it does not in any way change her wonderfully happy quality of life. (Less)

Peaches (roughly 1 year old as of December, 2014) is a spayed female tortoise shell tuxedo shorthaired cat. Peaches was once a family pet with 3 other cats, until one day when her family moved away, and simply left the cats locked in their home. A neighbor saw the trapped cats and did what they thought would be most helpful- smashing a window to let the cats out so they wouldn't starve. Peaches has a sensitive soul and seems a little more troubled by her past than her happy go lucky sister Pickles. She takes a day or two to really warm up to new people and places, but when she does she comes running to greet you with happy little trills and her tail twitching from excitement. She's not demanding at all and is often happy to just sit next to you and get a pet here and there. She does like to play but takes care of that mostly on her own, you can sit back and watch her do acrobatic acts or throw a ball for her and watch her fly across your house. She's also a bit less trusting of new cats, she will even growl or hiss as she is getting to know them, but she doesn't seek confrontation and can do great with other cats given time or could probably be happy as an only cat. Although she is probably too shy to enjoy being around very loud and active younger kids she is a gentle little sweetheart so for families with calmer kids or regular child visitors she could be a great choice! She's normally very gentle- you can rub her paws all over your face and claws never come out even though she is terrible at nail trims, but she can get a little over-excited and forget that there is a person under the clothing as she climbs around acting like people are her personal cat trees. She needs a family that can handle a cat/monkey hybrid and set boundaries with her when she gets too hyper! (Less)

Thief is a beautiful, sweet, active, playful and very people-friendly, 20-month-old, golden-eyed, female black and white tuxedo cat looking for a loving guardian. Thief is a cuddly and loving girl who lost her original home when her human died. She loves everyone. She lets her foster parents clip her nails and she always uses her litter box and scratching post. She loves to get up high in her foster home to survey her kingdom. Compatibility: Good w/ Most Cats, Not Good w/ Dogs, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)

Petra is a gorgeous, four-year-old, female brown and white classic tabby with golden eyes looking for a loving guardian. Petra was being fed outside and she was very consistent about showing up at the same place and same time every day. My friend told me about what he thought was a pregnant cat. Turned out she is just well-fed! I went to meet her and took her home (in a trap). When I brought her in to get spayed, I found that she had trapped a couple times before ... so she had already been spayed and micro-chipped. So, I got her vaccines up-dated, and had her re-checked for viruses, and treated for fleas and worms. Petra doesn't have ... (Read More)much use for humans. She likes when they keep her well-fed ... she loves her canned food. And she's very neat and tidy and uses her litter box perfectly. She does enjoy the company of other cats and hangs out with them happily in my house ... until I come in the room. And, then she darts back to her cat tree to hide. It's a bit insulting, but I think a patient cat-loving person can bring her around to appreciating humans a bit more. Why would someone take in a semi-feral cat? She'll live longer in the great indoors, she is a good friend to my other cats, and she's a no-bother kind of girl ... clean and neat. And, she's a challenge for those that enjoy socializing shy cats. Petra is extremely healthy, spayed, up-to-date on rabies and distemper vaccines, micro-chipped, virus-tested negative and treated with revolution for fleas and worms.     Genevieve (about 1 year old as of October, 2014) is a spayed female tortoiseshell short-haired cat. Genevieve was found outside as a ridiculously friendly and outgoing stray. We can only guess at her age and background, but because she is so petite and still so playful we think she is just around 1 year old, she's like a big kitten! We also suspect she was raised from very early on as an only cat because she is so open and loving with all people but so terrible at social interactions with other cats. She gets upset just by the sight of other cats and sometimes throws tantrums around them. When she does try to make friends she just sneaks up ... (Read More)on them and tries to play, roughly, like she never learned the right way to go about it from a mother cat and litter-mates. She even plays a little too rough with people so we wouldn't recommend her for a family with small children, but for the right family that likes to 'razzle' their cat and really play she'll be tons of fun! If she's not playing she loves to be craddled like a baby and held or carried around for ages- she is a very attention seeking cat and will probably do best as a spoiled only cat or sharing the spotlight with just one or two other young, playful, and hopefully more submissive cats.     Sunshine (about 3-4 years old as of November, 2014) is a spayed female orange with white longhaired cat. Sunshine showed up in one of our feral colonies and had kittens before she could be trapped and fixed. When we caught her and her newborn kittens we were amazed at how easy going she was with us as we checked out her kittens, and baffled when she let one of our volunteers shave off the matted parts of her thick fluffy coat, a grueling process that took 40 minutes and that most friendly cats wouldn't stay calm through. We now know that her subdued behavior was less because she was the best socialized cat in the world and more because she ... (Read More)is sweet and incredibly submissive and puts up no resistance when she feels cornered. But despite being very shy and selective about who she trusts we've found she does really love being petted and brushed and it seems with time she is opening up to life as a pampered house cat. Being such a delicate soul that takes a long time to trust and only comes out when it's quiet and peaceful we think she would do best with a small family without noisy kids running around to overwhelm her. With other cats she generally keeps to herself and is non-confrontational but she has been known to hold her own wrestling with her crazy little foster sister Genevieve.     Fallon is a handsome, outgoing, sweet, goofy and tall, one-year-old, long and muscular, male patch tabby cat with golden/green eyes looking for a loving guardian. Fallon was rescued from Chicago Animal Care and Control. He is living in a foster home where this little comedian keeps his foster mom laughing '| which is why she named him after Jimmy Fallon.     Dilute tortie. She has come a long way from once being a feral to living comfortably in our office. She was shy at first but has really learned to open up and trust people. She's has a feminine way about her and is very soft spoken when she ask for a treat or just be petted. When she's uncertain of something she'll hold up one of her rear legs straight behind her like a little ballerina. Sometimes she walks around doing this, switching legs with each step. She loves to play the laser game and chase the dot. She also enjoys watching the birds, squirrels and chipmunks eat from the feeder. She loves treats and being brushed. She takes her ... Domestic Cat    Age: Adult

Buster (about 7 years old as of March, 2015) is a special needs neutered male black shorthaired polydactyl cat. He was found as a stray and it was obvious that Buster had a hard life on the streets. He is friendly but his years fending for himself have taught him to fear new people at first until he gets to know you. With that said, Buster is all talk and no action and he would not hurt a fly and loves being petted by the people he trusts. He is a special 'polydactyl' cat with one extra toe on each paw, making his front paws look like little mittens. Buster does have some special health problems, as well. When we found him he had a non ... (Read More)functional eye that eventually started to get infected and had to be removed in January of 2015, but having one eye is not a major problem for as indoor cat who doesn't need great depth perception to hunt. Buster also came to us with some dental problems and has had to have most of his teeth removed but besides needing to eat soft food the only real effect that has on him is his cute little tongue sticks out more often. Buster is FIV positive but not ill from the virus. While it is possible that he could transfer the virus to another cat were he to bite them, the transfer rate among fixed cats is very, very low. Buster does get along with other cats but would probably be least stressed in a quit home as an only cat or with only 1 or two feline companions. If adopted into a home with non FIV cats we would ask you to follow a very slow, gentle introduction to minimize territorial aggression and avoid unsupervised contact until the cats have safely bonded. Domestic Cat    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Spike is a very sweet senior boy whose human (my sister, who lived with us) passed away in October 2013. In addition to Spike, she left Figaro, another male senior, and Janie, a senior female. I promised my sister before she passed that I would somehow find loving homes for her three 'kids' and not allow them to be euthanized because of their age. Spike has his claws, uses a scratching post, and is a very good boy with the litter box. Once he gets used to a new human, he is VERY friendly and will head-butt for attention, just like Figaro. He and the other cats have lived with a Sheltie (now over the R. Bridge)and they all played together. ... (Read More)I don't know how he is with bigger dogs. We have German Shepherd rescues and have not introduced them to the cats. Spike is a big, healthy boy, neutered, and has all of his shots. I have been taking care of Spike and the others since my sister's death, but I am allergic to cats and I am becoming more and more ill because of the allergy. At 70, I am a senior myself with additional health issues. My husband and I also have the aforementioned German Shepherds and two parrots, so the cats have been confined to one bedroom. They are lonely for the more constant companionship of a human mom and/or dad and deserve a better life for their last years. Can someone please help and give Spike a loving home? Would prefer if all three cats could be together (especially Spike and Figaro), but they can be separated. We are in Fox Lake, Illinois. My email is judybrando@comcast.net. (Less) (Less)
