My life is different than most kitties or so I am told. Instead of a soft, warm bed and an endless supply of love and food, I am currently makin do with what I have, which is not a lot. I live at the beach, sleep in the bushes, which are not so comfy and eat whatever I am lucky enough to find, if I find anything that day. Salty water tastes ... (Read More)bad, but it is better than nothing. And it is HOT, very, hot. And when it is not hot it is raining, with no shelter I get so wet and cold, so do the other kitties out here. Some days an angel comes to see me, feed me and give me what I crave the most, LOVE. When I hear her calling my name I pop out of the bushes and say hello, I do like to talk! Then she scoops me up and we go for a little ride, she holds me while we Rollerblade back and forth slowly on the sidewalk. I love it! I am grateful there is a wonderful, loving human who is trying to find me a forever home. Or maybe even a foster home where I will be safe inside and not on the streets anymore. Since she has been feeding me and loving on me, I trust her and will allow her to hold me, and pet my soft white fur, even my little markings which look like 'chaps', whatever those are. It would probably not take me long at all to be the same way with the person who will open their heart and home for me, to give me a safe place to spend the rest of my days. Each day I wake wondering if there will be something to eat, if I will get chased and scared by anyone, if I will make it back to my bush bed at night. This is not the life I had planned as a wee kitten, it is the life I am living now but hopefully all that will end soon. Very soon. Every kitty is special in their own way, but some are extra special. Meet Mikey- he is one of those extra special kitties that most adopters might overlook. Why? He is a little older than most kittens, not a special breed like Siamese or Bengal, just a plain tabby boy with three white socks. Why three? Read on and you will see. Mikey turned up one day in a volunteers front yard. His microchip claimed he was from Naples, which is a long way from Miami where he was found. His ear had also been notched at some point in his life. But what makes this boy so extra special is not any of that. It is his attitude about life, his spirit, his ... (Read More)refusal to accept limitations or to even realize they exist. Mikey has only three socks due to the fact his front leg had to be amputated, when found he was injured and try as they did the vet could not save the leg. But none of that matters to Mikey. He jumps twice as high and just as gracefully as any other cat, never even noticing what some would call a handicap. He even plays patty-cake with his foster mom. He loves to play - missing a front leg doesn't slow him down a bit! He has absolutely no trouble jumping onto or down from couches or beds, in fact he overcompensates and often jumps higher than he needs to. And best of all? He is a TOTAL lap cat, he spends most of his time on the couch right next to you, if not on top of you. When he gets the urge to touch noses with you, he will awkwardly hop onto your chest and jam his face into yours. He likes to be thorough with his face rubs, so he will tooth you a little bit as he rubs his mouth across your chin. He is cuddly, and if you're sitting on the floor he will immediately make his way over to you and hop onto your lap. If you push him away, don't worry - he'll make his way right back. He just wants to be cuddled all the time. Probably due to his past he can be a bit jumpy at times and may be better suited to a home without small children or hyper dogs. Or even with them as long as the family who adopts him understands and is patient while he adjusts to another change in his life. This is one special boy, looking for that special family or person who will see past the outside. Make no mistake he does not feel there is a thing 'missing' or 'wrong' with him. All he sees is love. Unconditional love to give and receive. It will take as great of a love, of a heart, as Mikey has to be the fortunate adopter of this wonderful boy. Is that you? Muffie's human was admitted into a nursing home and Muffie landed in the local high kill shelter. It broke my heart to see this shy, sweet lady in those conditions. You can tell from her mug shot she was totally confused. She is slowly coming out of her depression and not hiding in the closet as much. It would be so much better for her to be in a stable environment where she knows she is safe and loved. I know her personality would come shining through! Hello .. this cat is very dear to my heart. She has been in this neighborhood many years but ferrel .. this year I was able to pet her when she became sick. She even let me pick her up once and hold her for about 10 minutes. Never since that day have I been able to hold her though. She lets me pet her now all over her and she drools and purrs.
