I need a saint. This is Jenny she was part of a family of kittens who came into the yard with their mom. She did have a very pretty mom and 2 very playful siblings. The people in our neighborhood killed her mom and two brothers. She survived by hiding in a burrow under our shed. She lived down there with a skunk a ground hog and a possum. In fact at a young age she had to drag the body of the possum from under the shed because it died. She is a survivor, but she is terrified. We brought her into our basement as a rescue and she is doing great. she knows how to use the litter pan she plays she sleeps she does everything kittens do ... (Read More)but shes still scared. She really wants to trust and love and be a kitty but understandably she is a bit apprehensive. She needs someone who day after day for a long time will show her that she will be loved and not hurt. She will come around and be a great kitty but she is really gonna need someone to be patient. If your a saint she needs you, she would be a great playmate for another kitty or given time she would be a great lap cat in a while. If your heart is huge then please, please be the only good thing that's happened in this little girls life. She has done a lot of the work she has survived help her now live. (Less)

Domestic Cat    Age: Adult

Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Needs Vaccinations, Blind, Malnourished

Hello, I am a veterinarian from Naugatuck, CT and I have a blind kitty at my hospital who would love to find his forever home. I was wondering if you knew of anyone who would possibly foster or adopt a sweet, (~8 yr old), neutered male blind kitty. A good samaritan presented this cat to me who followed him to his work. He was a stray that appeared very skinny, blind, and was desperately crying to come inside. On presentation he had conjunctivitis and an upper respiratory tract infection, both of which have now resolved with antibiotics. He has gained 3 lbs since staying at our hospital for the past couple of weeks! He does not have a ... (Read More)microchip, and is FeLV/FIV negative. As far as the cause for blindness I am unsure. He may have been born this way congenitally, or experienced Feline Retinal Degeneration thought to be from malnutrition. I've performed full blood work on him which showed a high white count and mild anemia but both are resolving. He had roundworms as well which we have treated with Pyrantel. I've vaccinated him for rabies, but he will need his FVRCP (distemper) vaccine. He is such a sweet guy who deserves a home that will love him unconditionally, but also be mindful of his disability. I am unsure of how he does with other cats but he's a total love with people. Thank you so much for your time and consideration. Best, Stephanie Kozol, DVM (Less)

Please help, share, etc. My darling cat, Mr. Kitty, is not doing well. For those that know me well- you are aware of the worries and hardships we've faced regarding him. He's a 5 year old polydactyl Egyptian Blue. He's playful and loving as all hell... as long as he feels safe- otherwise- like other cats- he hides and just chills by himself. I am absolutely in love with him. Like many male cats, he developed crystals in his urine which is extremely painful. Before you ask, his amazing vet has done everything they can think of. He's on a special vet prescribed wet food. I've tried to teach him English but of course his grammar is ... (Read More)awful, so he shows me in other ways when he's in pain... Excessive licking of his wee wee and urinating on the floor or in the bathtub. I'm coming to you asking for informed (but please be gentle- my heart aches over this) advice. He is not meant to be outdoors with his nervousness, plus the coyotes we have around here. I am calling his vet Monday for her professional advice. As of right now, I really don't know the humane options available for him. All I've been able to come up with is finding a cat lover that has the financial means to care for him when/if these issues return. I've had him since he was 6 weeks old. We've paid for 2 surgeries and the condition keeps coming back. I can not afford to keep doing the surgeries, and I really don't know if putting his body through it again is humane. The only other option I can come up with is having him euthanatized. And if that's the right thing to do for HIM- devastated- I will make the right choice. I know this post will go unread by many due to its length... but if you read this- please private message me if you have advice or know anyone that might be able to take him in and give him the good life he deserves. He's my favorite animal in the world. (Less)

A slender, (not skinny or malnourished)gentle affectionate grey male tabby. Young cat, seems to have been abandoned as he seems to know the neighborhood and roams between about four/five neighbors backyards including my own. Seems to be searching, we will alternatively take him in at night when we hear him meowing and we do feed him. He was very very hungry when he first appeared on my porch. Familiar with indoor environments as well as being used to and obviously comfortable as an outdoor cat. No fleas, skin issues, eye or ear, respiratory problems. Seems in good health. Russian Blue Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Leukemia (FeLV)

We've had a lot of super sweet and cool cats come through our system in the last six years, but this boy is totally special. And he needs a special home because he's Feline Leukemia positive (FeLV), which is why he can't be with other cats (FeLV+ cats OK). Smokey, who we believe is about five years old, was an outside cat who a woman fed. Her brother asked us to take him when she suddenly died. We didn't know that he was positive until we took him to the vet. We can't say enough good things about this boy. He's got great energy and is just so cool and affectionate; we love him very much and will be sad to see him go, BUT will be glad for ... (Read More)him to get his forever home. Smokey should be with people who will give him a ton of attention; we believe that he'll live a long time because he's healthy otherwise. Since Smokey has to live separately from the other cats in his foster home (they live on the second floor), we think that sometimes he gets depressed that he can't be with other cats or his foster parent all the time. We'd like to place him as soon as possible so that his immune system doesn't suffer. Smokey is a very social cat and as such needs to be with people. He likes to sleep on the bed. (Please note: Smokey has been with us since March 2014 and we'd love to place him with people where he'll have the run of the house and can sleep on the bed. We believe this is key to his continued good health despite the Feline Leukemia.) ***** We require that you fill out our Companion Animal Guardian History (application), provide the names and phone numbers of the veterinarians you've used in the past five years, and have a home visit. We provide you with a photo copy of Smokey's medical record. His adoption fee is $150 which includes, but is not limited to, neuter, vaccinations, worming, Feline Leukemia/FIV/Heartworm blood test and microchip. We offer a 100% return guarantee.     I'm a very cool dude looking for my swingin' forever home. But don't let my smooth demeanor fool you, I'm a total love bug and will follow you around so you can pet me every so often or give me a peck on the head. I think it would be nice to have an animal pal in my new home, too. ***** Jack is considered Special Needs because his vet believes he has Rhinitis, an upper respiratory issue that's somewhat common in cats. He'll most likely have to take Doxycycline for the rest of his life; 50 mg once a day. He sounds as if he has a stuffy nose and it may be runny from time to time. These are the only symptoms we've observed since October 2015 ... (Read More)when he came to stay with us until adoption. Rhinitis is not contagious to other cats. ***** We require that you fill out our Companion Animal Guardian History, provide the names and phone numbers of the veterinarians you've used in the past five years, and have a home visit. We provide you with a photo copy of Jack's medical record. His adoption fee is $150 which includes, but is not limited to, neuter, vaccinations, worming, Feline Leukemia/FIV/Heartworm blood test and microchip. We offer a 100% return guarantee. ***** Please note: The Queenie Foundation places cats ONLY in CT and preferably in Hartford county. (Less)

Ally was turned into a big NYC kill shelter with 8 housemates because the owner had too many cats. She is shy and unsure of herself right now but a real beauty. She has just arrived and we do not know much about her other than she is 2 years old. We are hoping she will build confidence as she adjust to being away from her original home. She is here with one of her siblings so we are hopeful that he will help her settle in and be happy.

PIease Read Before Adopting a Cat in Connecticut
Cats can make good pets in Connecticut if they match your IifestyIe. Domestic Cats have been intriguing companions for humans since ancient times. Worldwide, cats are even more popular than dogs as pets. Sadly, huge numbers of cats are in need of adoption and care. A cat owner who no longer wants the cat, or is no longer able to care for a cat, may drop the cat off at a shelter or simply abandon it. Overcrowding in shelters, along with too few adoptive families for the cats, leads to many wonderful pets having to be euthanized. Abandoned cats fend for themselves and breed in the wild, forming colonies of feral cats. Feral cats have such a difficult existence that they typically only live an average of two years, whereas domestic cats can live an average of twelve years with proper care. Organizations exist that can catch and tame feral kittens, and then place them in a home, but adult ferals can rarely be socialized to trust humans. Meanwhile, many prospective cat owners choose to purchase a kitten from a pet store or breeder, and may not know that even purebred cats and kittens are often available for adoption.

Once someone is ready for the responsibility of caring for a cat, adoption can be an incredibly rewarding decision. Adoption benefits cats, owners, and society alike. Adopting a cat is typically much less expensive than purchasing one. Shelters often have a wide selection of very sweet, friendly cats and kittens, including purebreds. Adoptive owners enjoy bonding with their pets, and have the extra satisfaction of knowing they have rescued a wonderful companion from a hard existence. Every cat adopted means one less cat has to be euthanized. Every kitten purchased new results in one less opportunity for adoption to take place. If you are ready for a pet cat, please consider adoption!

lnteresting Cat Trivia Low-Cost Connecticut Spay & Neuter Clinics
All domestic cats are descended from African wild cats. Cats were considered divine in ancient Egypt and are depicted in hieroglyphs and found mummified in the tombs of Pharaohs. The cats in the Broadway show, Cats, were inspired by feral cats in London made famous as T.S. Eliot's Jellicle Cats. Cats were incredibly popular in ancient Rome; Rome may have been spared from plague outbreaks due to its huge population of feral cats keeping the rat population under control. Today, Rome has the largest number of feral cats of any city in the worldabout 300,000 felines! The largest domestic cat ever weighed was about 46 pounds!
