I have had Emma for three years and I love her very much. She is approx. 7 years old. I rescued her from a shelter where they kept her under the stair well and away from all of the other cats. She was for free because she is cat aggressive/apparently couldn't use a cat box (but she could and does never had an accident ever!). They gave me a sob story about how she was neglected and never fed and I fell in love. If you are a single person who has patience to let her get to know and trust you then this is the cat for you. She hisses when she is scared but once you get to know her shes a love bug. I am moving and cannot bring her with me and I ... (Read More)am very sad about it. (Less)

Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

**UPDATE** Maple becomes extremely stressed out being put in a cat carrier, so much so that she works herself into a seizure. She is a normal, happy kitten otherwise. She will be seeing a veterinarian to see if there is anything we can do to prevent this from happening. Once she sees the vet I will post an update.*** Pretty little Maple was rescued from a bad situation along with her brother Nutmeg. She is as sweet as she is beautiful. Only about 6 months old. She is very affectionate, petite & purrs like a little motor. She would do fine with a cat-friendly dog or other kitties. She will be vaccinated & spayed prior to adoption.

The New Britain Two: Our girls, Allie (the smaller one) and Bailey, were living in a dangerous situation. One of their cat friends was murdered in the basement by the people who lived upstairs in their two-family home. Then their guardian was evicted from her apartment for non-payment of rent. With no where to put her cats, the guardian called for help. They rely on each other and need to stay together. They have adjusted to their foster home and really want a clean and safe home where there are no worries and lots of attention. Allie & Bailey are affectionate and sweet girls, however, can be shy from time to time. ...     Sweet little 1 year old Razzle is just about ready for her forever home! This poor girl was so severely neglected from the time she was a baby that she is only 5 lbs at full weight, and has corneal opacities from old injuries. She is not blind and can see with no problems. She is currently on eye drops to see if we can get her eyes to continue to improve. She also has a chronic case of the sniffles (most likely for the rest of her life), which we are working on managing as well. Besides these few things, she is healthy and FULL of love.

A minimum adoption donation of $100/cat or kitten or $160 for 'any two'is requested. PLEASE remember the adults need homes also and 99% of them in our care are just kittens in an adult body. SALE SALE- adults are in such need of loving homes that we are doing a 'name your price' on them. It costs us $90 for them to be fixed and shots and then there is also the cost of food, litter, medications and special treatment they may have needed while staying with us. What we ... (Read More)hope is that you take that into consideration when making your donation and know that in order for us to be able to help more cats and kittens in need we need to be able to cover our costs at least. It recommend and prefer kittens go to homes with another kitten or with cats already in the home, however it is not a requirement. Kittens do better socially and there is a lower return rate on kittens that have a play buddy.     Looking for someone to foster my cat for about a year. Macintosh is a initially skittish 14 year old male cat. For 11 years, it was just him and me in apartments. In 2011, I needed to move out of my apartment because I had lost my job and couldn't pay my rent. I moved in with my brother, whose apartment didn't allow cats. My best friend stepped in and generously took Macintosh in. My best friend is moving to Maine and can no longer care for Macintosh. Her two sons took very good care of him and Macintosh grew very close to her youngest son. I'm now living with my mom, who's allergic. I hate to give him up, but right now, I have no ... Animal ID: SmokeySmokey (male)

Domestic Cat    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Leukemia (FeLV)

We've had a lot of super sweet and cool cats come through our system in the last four years, but this boy is totally special. And he needs a super special home because he's Feline Leukemia positive, so he has to be with another Feline Leukemia positive cat. Smokey was a stray who a woman started feeding late last year; we don't know why she didn't bring him inside. When she died suddenly her brother contacted several groups to take him and the three other cats who lived in her home. We took Smokey and one other cat. We didn't know that he was positive until we took him for a blood test. We can't say enough good things about this boy. He's ... (Read More)got great energy and is just so cool; we love him very much and will be sad to see him go. Smokey should be in a home where he'll get a ton of attention. We believe that he will live a long time because he's healthy otherwise. Since Smokey has to live separately from the other cats in his foster home (all the other cats live on the second floor), we think that sometimes he gets depressed that he can't be with other cats or his foster parent. We'd like to place him as soon as possible so that his immune system doesn't suffer. Smokey is a very social cat and as such needs to be with people (a FeLV cat would be a plus or a dog). ********************************************** We require that you fill out our Companion Animal Guardian History, provide vet reference(s) and have a home visit. We provide you with a photo copy of Smokey's medical record. Adoption fee is $150 which includes, but is not limited to, neuter, vaccinations, worming, Feline Leukemia/FIV/Heartworm blood test and microchip. (Less)

Domestic Cat    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Female Cats Only, Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Sylvester was a stray that some nice people took in for a while. But their living situation changed and so they had to give him up. He does very well with female cats, although hasn't made any connections with the cats in his foster home and doesn't seem to be too concerned with the dogs, either. He's affectionate and very cute. We think that Sylvester would like to have a female cat pal. ********************************************* We require that you fill out our Companion Animal Guardian History, provide a vet reference and have a home visit. Domestic Cat    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

March, 2013: Poor Jenny. Her people retired to another state and left her behind. ;-( She's sad without them which is why we want to get her into her forever home as soon as possible. Jenny is super sweet and just needs a litle warm up time to get used to her new surroundings. She likes treats, is affectionate and will keep you company all day long. Jenny's foster parent tells us that Jenny greets her at the door every time she comes home. She came from a fairly quiet household so we think that would be best. Update February 2014: Jenny was adopted this month, but the adopter returned her when it was discovered that she has diabetes. Jenny ... (Read More)never gave any indication that she is diabetic. Poor Jenny, she just can't catch a break.     My person died and the family didn't want to keep me. :-( So I came to The Queenie Foundation to find my new home. A nice man adopted me, but I didn't like the cat and the ferrets who already live there; a personality conflict. - sigh - I liked the lizard, though! I just want a forever home where I can sit on your lap or sleep on the bed; I'm super affectionate and can't wait to keep someone company. I can get along with another cat or dog in my new home if they give me my space. Children are OK as long as they're kind. **************************************** We require that you fill out our Companion Animal Guardian History, provide a ... Bengal Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Cats, Not Good w/ Dogs, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Willy was adopted from The Queenie Foundation in June 2012, but was returned in September 2013 because of asthma. His former people spend half their time in South Carolina and half in Connecticut; they discovered that Willy reacts to the pollen in the south so much so that he can't go there. It was determined by their vet that he needs to stay in New England, so our boy came back to us. Then he was adopted in March by a woman who has a pre-teenage boy. We're not sure of the details, but he was returned; given his behavior when he came back to us, he acted as if he'd been mistreated. He's been in a foster home since he came back and has ... (Read More)returned to his sweet silly self who only wants your affection. All we want for our boy is a quiet home where he'll be taken care of and loved and where he has plenty of room to hide, jump up high and lounge. He'll be affectionate with you and greet you at the door when you come home, but may or may not make friends with visitors. He's a special boy who just needs your attention. ************************************************ We require that you fill out our Companion Animal Guardian History, provide vet reference(s) and have a home visit. Domestic Cat    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Cats, Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

I am quite the little mouser, a new talent I've developed since my foster mom lets me go outside because I'm special. None of the other cats in the house get to go outside, but since I REALLY hate to stay indoors all the time, she lets me in the yard. And that's when I discovered mice! *********************************************** Though our policy requires all cats adopted from us must live indoors, we're making an exception with Chloe. Since she can get along without other animals, and prefers to be indoor/outdoor, we will waive the requirement for her to live solely indoors. Chloe is a tame (as opposed to feral) cat, and she's OK to be ... (Read More)without human or animal companionship. In fact, she's better without cats, dogs, or people. We believe she would do well as a barn cat provided she has a heated place to live in the winter (required). We require that you fill out our Companion Animal Guardian History, provide a vet reference(s) and have a home visit. We provide you with a photo copy of Chloe's medical record. Adoption fee is $100 which includes spay, rabies, distemper, and Feline Leukemia vaccinations, worming, and microchip. Please note: Since Chloe is an indoor/outdoor cat, her Feline Leukemia Virus vaccination will need to be boosted every year. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Cat in Connecticut
Cats can make good pets in Connecticut if they match your IifestyIe. Domestic Cats have been intriguing companions for humans since ancient times. Worldwide, cats are even more popular than dogs as pets. Sadly, huge numbers of cats are in need of adoption and care. A cat owner who no longer wants the cat, or is no longer able to care for a cat, may drop the cat off at a shelter or simply abandon it. Overcrowding in shelters, along with too few adoptive families for the cats, leads to many wonderful pets having to be euthanized. Abandoned cats fend for themselves and breed in the wild, forming colonies of feral cats. Feral cats have such a difficult existence that they typically only live an average of two years, whereas domestic cats can live an average of twelve years with proper care. Organizations exist that can catch and tame feral kittens, and then place them in a home, but adult ferals can rarely be socialized to trust humans. Meanwhile, many prospective cat owners choose to purchase a kitten from a pet store or breeder, and may not know that even purebred cats and kittens are often available for adoption.

Once someone is ready for the responsibility of caring for a cat, adoption can be an incredibly rewarding decision. Adoption benefits cats, owners, and society alike. Adopting a cat is typically much less expensive than purchasing one. Shelters often have a wide selection of very sweet, friendly cats and kittens, including purebreds. Adoptive owners enjoy bonding with their pets, and have the extra satisfaction of knowing they have rescued a wonderful companion from a hard existence. Every cat adopted means one less cat has to be euthanized. Every kitten purchased new results in one less opportunity for adoption to take place. If you are ready for a pet cat, please consider adoption!
