Rescue Me ID: 16-04-26-00500Miss Kitty (female)

Domestic Cat    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Most Cats
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed

Hi! I am a beautiful Domestic Shorthair spayed female silver tabby with gorgeous blue eyes. My mom left me a while ago, and I don't really know why, but it frightened me and made me sad. I really loved her. She used to let me sit in her lap and sleep with her. She treated me like a queen - you should see all the things she bought for me! I have not one, but two kitty condos, two beds, and loads of toys. My favorite toy, though, isn't even made for cats! It's an old Barbie doll that my mom gave me. I love to drag her all around by her arm or hair. She's my bud. After my mom left, some people came to our house for a while. I was kind of scared ... (Read More)of them at first, but then realized that they weren't so bad! So I started going up to them and they scratched and petted me, and even played with me! Gee, maybe new people can be nice too! I am really a love, and would be overjoyed to find another nice, quiet home with people who would love me back. Why don't you come see me at the Safe Place for Cats Welcome Center? I know that once you get to know me you'll realize that I'm irresistible! (Less)

Domestic Cat    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi, my name is Sammy. I'm older than my two brothers Vincent and Mikey, but they're braver than I am. I'm kind of confused and scared about losing mom and having to find another person to love and be loved by. I'm an 8-year-old neutered male black and white tuxedo cat, and I've heard people say how handsome I am. Even though I'm shyer then my brothers, I do love to be petted and loved. I'm a snuggle-bum. I was taken from my mama cat too soon, and my human mom - gosh, do I miss her! - would let me cuddle on her shoulder and suck on her earlobe to comfort myself. We were all happy together, my two cat brothers, three dog brothers, and I. But ... (Read More)now I need a new home. Do you think it might be yours? I promise that I'll love you too. Please come to the Safe Place Welcome Center in Manitou Springs and let me show you for yourself how special I am. (Less)

Maine Coon    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Would you like a coon for a pet? A Maine Coon, that is. If so, you need to take a look at me! My name is Mikey, and that's what I am - a 5-year-old neutered male Maine Coon. You can see from my picture how beautiful I am, with my deep brown fur streaked with gold at my ruff. Seeing me now, you'd never know that I almost died as a kitten. I know that we Maine Coons are used to snow, but I was only four weeks old when my mom found me half frozen in a snowstorm. I was so cold! She and her daughter found me and brought me inside to warm up, then bottle-fed me until I was big enough to start eating regular food. I loved her so much for that! And ... (Read More)I loved our home. There were my two cat brothers to play with and some really nice dogs too. We all used to pile on her bed together and sleep with her. I'm so sad that she's gone; she was really a special person. Are you a special person too? I'd be so happy to find another home where I'd be loved and petted the way she used to do. I'd love you back, I promise! Please come see me at the Safe Place for Pets Welcome Center and let me show you how wonderful I am. (Less)

Domestic Cat    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi there! I'm looking for a new home, and thought I'd introduce myself to you. My name is Vincent, and I am a 5-year-old neutered male Domestic Shorthair. I'm pretty handsome, if I do say so myself, with my silver-black tabby coat. The doc said that I should lose a few pounds, and I suppose I could really use a bit of a diet. But hey! I'm big boned. Seriously though, I'm a friendly fellow. I like to be petted and loved, and I'm really easygoing. I've only been here at the Safe Place for Pets Welcome Center for a few days, and I'm already making myself quite at home. As for my background, my first family was a military (whatever THAT means!) ... (Read More)family, and they were going to have to move. I was kind of scared about that, so my mom said that I could come and live with her. She already had two other cats and some dogs for me to play with, so how could I resist? I'm really sorry that she had to leave me, and would love to find another family. Maybe you have a cat or dog that I could play with and would make room for me in your heart too? Please come and let me introduce myself in person! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-04-26-00466Nora (female)

Domestic Cat    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hello there! My name is Nora, although the little girl in the family that wanted to adopt me thought my name should be Goobz. I think I like Nora better though. I am a beautiful 3-year-old spayed female domestic shorthair. Even though I am called a shorthair, my fur is plush and soft - almost like a bunny rabbit's fur! And as you can see in my pictures, it's really pretty as well. To tell you a little bit about myself, my mom died a few weeks ago, and her neighbors wanted to adopt me, which would have been ok with me. They were nice, but their little girl (the one who called me Goobz) was allergic to me. They had a dog, but that wasn't too ... (Read More)bad. When he got too close I just hissed at him and he went away. He knew who was boss! My mom used to have another cat, so living with other animals doesn't bother me. What I really do want is to be loved. I liked to rub up against the mommy's legs so that she would pet me, or sit next to her on the couch and purr. I even used to like to sit on top of her head when she was in her chair. That made her laugh! It was also fun to sit on their front windowsill and watch the world go by. It was warm yesterday, so they opened the window, and all those smells were just heavenly. Even though I live inside I love to smell the breeze. I also like to snuggle under blankets, and would have slept with them if they had let me. How about you? Would you let me sleep with you? Would you take me into your home and love me? Maybe you could give me a catnip mouse like the one I had before the dog ate it! Please come by and see me at the Safe Place Welcome Center in Manitou, and I'll prove how wonderful I am. You really won't be able to resist me. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-04-25-00274Bones (male)

Domestic Cat    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Bones was a stray for most of his life which has given him a ton of character and has turned him into the biggest lover. He is super friendly, loves to snuggle, and is such a clown. He is still pretty young and super curious, so playtime is key. He is approx 1.5yrs old, fixed, and up to date on vaccinations. He would probably be happiest as an indoor/outdoor cat (he is not microchipped, however) or he would make a great barn cat. He would do ok as an indoor cat so long as he has space to roam. I hate to let him go, but unfortunately he doesn't seem to be getting along with some of the other animals in our house (he did ok with some of the ... (Read More)other cats, but was terrified of the dog). He would do best as an only animal, or with one other cat. He does well with adults, but would probably not be great around children. Bones will come with his favorite food, litter, box, and toys. I'm asking a small re-homing fee of $25. (Less)

Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Shelly is a beautiful calico cat that had was pregnant and had a litter of kittens here at our sanctuary. She was the best mommy we've ever had, and all of her kittens have been adopted. It is now time for her to find a home of her own! She has three legs, with the fourth leg cut off at elbow. She doesn't let this stop her, though, and she gets around just fine...even in and out of the cat door to go outside. She also has a cataract in her left eye as you can see from the picture. She is a loving, somewhat shy cat who needs a loving, patient home. Please consider her.

Unfortunately the neighbor is allergic to me. Her friend is giving me a place to crash till someone comes along who will really love me forever. I'm a nice boy, I use the litter box and I love people. I don't even mind dogs. The people think I'm about a year old. I'm about to get neutered and get my shots.     I'm posting this for my handy man. He isn't computer literate. He was feeding Sunshine and two other feral cats for a few months. The other two disappeared but he was able to trap Sunshine. We thought she was feral but she is not. She is just very scared. She has never hissed or swatted. She must have had a home when she was a baby. She wants to be loved but she is also afraid. She even lets me hold her now. She is going to need someone who is willing to work with her but I think she is going to be a great cat. We had her spayed and vaccinated when we thought she was feral so she is also ear tipped. Please call if you would like to change ... (Read More)a kitty's life (Less)

Domestic Cat Mix    Age: Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi! My name is Sid, short for Sydney. I'm not from Australia though, but I did live with my mom in Nevada until she got too sick and had to move here. I'm really sad, and kind of scared right now because I don't understand why she had to leave me. I loved her a lot, and used to like to sit with her in her chair and in bed so that she could pet me and scratch my ears and chin. Once when she fell down and couldn't get up, I went and stayed by her face so she would know that I was there and not be scared. I like to meet new people and to play. After all, I'm just six - practically a kitten! When we still lived in Nevada, there was a 10-year-old ... (Read More)boy who used to visit me and play with me. I really loved that!     Miss Reagan is an extremely wonderful and beautiful meow meow. We got Reagan at 8 weeks old so she has always been with us. She was raised by a Jack Russell and a Yorkie. She has more dog traits than cat. She loves to be brushed, with the grain and against the grain, with a soft bristle brush. Reagan is an indoor/outdoor cat. This is very important and I won't let he go to an indoor only family/person. Reagan loves to climb on the roof, lounge on the couch and stair out the window, sleep on our bed and sleep in her bed, on top of the fridge. Sadly, I am very allergic to Reagan and there doesn't seem to be a medication that helps or that ... (Read More)doesn't have severe side effects.     Beautiful Neutered Male Ragdoll mix (we think). His mother was a stray Tortoiseshell. All of the kittens in her litter were different. Shamus is well-behaved, has lived with both cats and small dogs. He has not lived with children, but he has a good temperament and probably would do fine with kids as long as they are respectful of animals. Shamus is a little shy of loud noises and with strangers at first, but he is very social with people, and likes to be where the action is. He loves to sleep on the bed with his human companions, but he is not really a cuddler or a lap cat. He likes to be close, but not snuggled or crowded. When he is ... (Read More)napping and relaxed, he likes being petted. He has an amazing coat! Very thick and silky. He does not like being picked up too much, but he does like being picked up at certain times and being scratched around the head and he purrs loudly. Just depends on his mood. He does not scratch or bite, he is very gentle. Unlike the typical Ragdoll, he is vocal when he wants something. He also has a very loud purr. He was raised on a lot of land in Colorado Springs and is used to having a lot of outdoor access. He sleeps most of the day, and late afternoon, early evening he craves the outdoors. This is a must for him. He has been living in a condo the last 1 1/2 years and he gets very agitated when he can't go outside or doesn't have grass and nice outdoor environment. Even a large fenced yard would be nice for him. He won't be a good or happy cat as indoor only. Having a cat door is probably the best scenario for Shamus, as he likes to go in and out frequently. Also, he needs to have crunchy food out all of the time, otherwise he starts chewing on things, like plastic bags, etc. If food is available to him at all times, he won't chew on plastic or anything else. As a side note, he is a very large cat and he will play rough with other cats if the other cat plays rough, too. He has never hurt my other cat, or vice-versa, but I think being males, they are both asserting their dominance and sometimes it gets a little heated. Just something to know if you have a male cat already. Otherwise they are buddies, they hang out near each other, and like to lick each other and chase each other. Shamus is a very clean cat! He bathes a lot, and always smells nice. He has very fastidious bathroom habits. He prefers going potty outside, but when he can't, he always uses his litter box. Shamus is a wonderful and beautiful kitty! (Less)

Himalayan    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Cats, Not Good w/ Dogs, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Blind

We've had Sasha since 2003, and she's an absolutely wonderful, loving cat! Unfortunately my daughter has developed allergies though, and we need to find another home for her. She is almost completely blind, but she finds her way around just fine (I would suggest establishing a place for her food/water etc. that will be stable so she can easily find it though). Other animals make her nervous and she hides when they're around, so she would probably do best in a home where she will be the only animal. Also, she's only 5 lbs - yes - FIVE POUNDS - she's always been petite - it's very sweet. We can provide vet records from 2003 to present (same ... (Read More)vet).     Hi, I'm Joey. I'm a 3 1/2 year old gray tabby. I'm a little lonely at the moment, and am looking for my new home. I've lived with other cats in the past, so I might like another new feline buddy. I've recently lived with a chihuahua and I didn't like him so much. In the past, I liked to sit with mom and sleep with her. I'm submissive in personality, and sweet. I liked to sit up high in my cat tree, but that left when my mom did. I also like to sit in windows. Do you have one of those that I could grace? I love cheddar cheese too. Domestic Cat    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Cats, Good with Most Dogs
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hi, I'm Lola, and I'm a DLH tortie mix with lovely green eyes and claws. You won't want to look away as I mesmerize you with my beauty. I'll act shy, but will be happy to warm up to you when you give me a chance at a home with you. I'm middle aged (13), and would prefer a quiet home with no other cats. I've lived with small dogs before, and would consider habitating with them again. I have an orange dab on the side of my neck like a splotch of paint. I don't know if that's why my prior owner picked me, but I certainly fit in with his painting theme. I'm also quite limber. I like to be picked up and stretched out to my full length, which is ... (Read More)rather generous. I'm a thin girl, so I don't weigh much. I will also stand on the floor and stretch up to the countertop to let you know I'd like some of what you are preparing. So if you'd like a little kitchen help, consider me your ready and willing helper. People think I was named for the Kink's song Lola. But I was really named for a song 'What Lola wants Lola gets' from the play Damn Yankees. And it's you I really want. (Less)

Goose is a healthy, beautiful 16 y.o., 14 lb. spayed female DSH sweetheart with a gorgeous gray and tan coat. In her youth, Goose wrangled lizards and mice. But now in her retirement, she prefers a much more laid back and relaxed lifestyle. Goose can be quite affectionate, on her terms of course. She has a great purr, and a squeak of a meow. She has lived with a dog. With a clean bill of health from the vet, Goose has plenty of life left in her.

PIease Read Before Adopting a Cat in Colorado
Cats can make good pets in Colorado if they match your IifestyIe. Domestic Cats have been intriguing companions for humans since ancient times. Worldwide, cats are even more popular than dogs as pets. Sadly, huge numbers of cats are in need of adoption and care. A cat owner who no longer wants the cat, or is no longer able to care for a cat, may drop the cat off at a shelter or simply abandon it. Overcrowding in shelters, along with too few adoptive families for the cats, leads to many wonderful pets having to be euthanized. Abandoned cats fend for themselves and breed in the wild, forming colonies of feral cats. Feral cats have such a difficult existence that they typically only live an average of two years, whereas domestic cats can live an average of twelve years with proper care. Organizations exist that can catch and tame feral kittens, and then place them in a home, but adult ferals can rarely be socialized to trust humans. Meanwhile, many prospective cat owners choose to purchase a kitten from a pet store or breeder, and may not know that even purebred cats and kittens are often available for adoption.

Once someone is ready for the responsibility of caring for a cat, adoption can be an incredibly rewarding decision. Adoption benefits cats, owners, and society alike. Adopting a cat is typically much less expensive than purchasing one. Shelters often have a wide selection of very sweet, friendly cats and kittens, including purebreds. Adoptive owners enjoy bonding with their pets, and have the extra satisfaction of knowing they have rescued a wonderful companion from a hard existence. Every cat adopted means one less cat has to be euthanized. Every kitten purchased new results in one less opportunity for adoption to take place. If you are ready for a pet cat, please consider adoption!

lnteresting Cat Trivia Low-Cost Colorado Spay & Neuter Clinics
All domestic cats are descended from African wild cats. Cats were incredibly popular in ancient Rome; Rome may have been spared from plague outbreaks due to its huge population of feral cats keeping the rat population under control. Today, Rome has the largest number of feral cats of any city in the worldabout 300,000 felines!
