Domestic Cat    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Cats, Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Please help me find a home for my sweet cat. She has had a rough life so far. I got her from an ex whose roommates did not take good care of her. I took her in and she did very well, until I had to move and had to leave her with a friend who had cats until i could brig her to my new home. when I picked her up from my friend, she was emaciated, her hair had thinned out and she was fearful. she is now very attention-needy. She doesn't like my grandmothers cat that is very sweet and calm. 9I live with my grandma). We think she must have been terrorized by the other cats at my friends house and would probably do better as an only cat. She was ... (Read More)standoffish at first with my grandmas small dog, but they became best friends. Therefore, she would probably be ok with a small dog that likes cats. She is fine with older kids, that aren't trying to poke and prod her and pick her up all the time. She loves to cuddle with you when she sleeps. She is very loving and needs a good stable forever home. I am moving in with my mom and she has a dog that tries to kill cats. I am asking a small re-homing fee to ensure only serious adopters apply. I wish I could keep her, but I don't want her traumatized any further she deserves better. She will come with her bowls, and litter box. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 18-02-12-00406Oscar (male)

American Shorthair Mix    Age: Senior

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hello, everyone! My name is Oscar and I would like to introduce myself. I am a very handsome all-gray, neutered cat, with gold eyes, and I weigh about 12 pounds. I just arrived at the Safe Place for Pets Welcome Center. Even though it is comfortable, and the room service and housekeeping staff (aka cattery volunteer team) is great, my being here means that I need a new furever home. I sadly lost my dad last fall, and his daughter and son-in-law were not able to keep me because of the daughter's cat allergy. All of us were very disappointed, but they did the next best thing to help me find that new special someone by bringing me here. When ... (Read More)my dad and I were still together, I enjoyed being outside during the day and visiting with the neighbors. I always came inside at night and really loved just being close to my dad and sitting in his lap as much as possible. I am a very playful guy, even for a 13-year-old, and really get excited about chasing strings, shoelaces, and cords'|look out if you have drawstring cords on a sweatshirt hood! At the end of the day, I liked to sleep curled up on the bed close to my dad. Since my dad has passed away, I have adjusted quite well to being indoor-only. If there is a window to sit in to watch the world, I'm good. Since I tend to be shy and wary in new situations, I am taking my time settling in at the Welcome Center. So far, I am doing OK with the other cats living there, and I have not had to use my claws or growl vigorously at them, but I have uttered a low rumble to let them know that I am not so sure about them just yet. The cattery volunteers are very nice, and I am looking forward to getting to know them and enjoying their attention. An even better option is to meet you to see if we might be a good fit for each other. You can visit me by calling Safe Place for Pets at 719-359-0201 or submitting a pet inquiry at www.safeplacepets.org. I hope to see you soon! (Less)

I may be small but I am mighty! Whew%BD'%BD|I got a little carried away there. Let me properly introduce myself! My name is Xena and I'm currently looking for forever family so I can begin my journey as a warrior fighting for the greater good. Before the awesome people of PawsCo took me in I was a stray; alone in the world. In my past life I had to learn how to take care of myself but now I've been given the opportunity to learn about some of the FUN ... (Read More)things in life! Understandably, it takes me a little bit to warm up to new people. I'm just nervous you might be an evil warlord or something. I never bite or scratch and once I learn I can trust you I'm learning how much I kinda totally love being loved ON. I feel much more comfortable with other kitty friends. I'd absolutely love a cat sibling but I've also warmed up to a few mellow pups in the past! Life is just better with friends after all. I've got the heart of warrior but I need my group of allies to reach my full potential!     I am a typical awesome cat! Of course, by typical cat, I mean super friendly, super lovable, very appreciative and especially well-socialized. And, of course, by typical cat, I mean super sweet, sometimes playful, sometimes lazy and always especially cute! Yup. I'm just a typical cat looking for a typical home. By typical home, of course, I mean one with someone to love me forever, play with me often, cuddle with me daily and never let me go.     Two brothers! Harley and Oliver are mixed Bangal/Tabby cats. They are 4 years old, neutered and declawed. My wife and I have had them since they were 4 weeks old. Harley is very submissive, sweet, talkative cat. Oliver was a little abused by my wives roommate when he was young so he is a little shy, but very sweet when he warms up. It is very hard for us to rehome our cats, but our 17 month old is slightly allergic and also has asthma. These are indoor cats. We tried to adopt a dog one time but the cats were not too thrilled about it. An older or relaxed dog may work out. Email me if you have any questions. Will work on uploading pictures. ...     Smokey Grey Domestic Short Hair Female 6 years old 10 lbs. Hi, my name is Smokey! Ever heard of the phrase 'good things take time'? I'm kind of adopting that as my life motto at the moment. I'm still feeling a little shy when I meet new people, but I'm just taking my time to find the right forever family to open up with. Until recently, I lived with my family since I was a kitten. I'm still getting adjusted to the change, but I just know there's another family out there for me to help make complete! In my previous life, I grew up with other cats and dogs, so I'm not afraid of other furry family members. Sometimes loud noises startle me, ... (Read More)but I'm used to a busy household and promise eventually I'll learn which sounds are 'normal' for my family! Once I get settled in, I'm a pretty mellow family member. I don't need a ton of play time or activities to keep me busy. Just point me in the direction of a sunny snooze spot and I'll keep myself entertained! I'm also interested in some cuddles, but I just want that mutual trust before I can unleash my true love potential. Don't get me wrong; I'm very interested in making new friends. When new people come over, I like to stay nearby and tell them 'meow' in welcome. Let's start with some head pets and work our way up! If you're looking for that missing puzzle piece to complete your heart, email PawsCo at adopt@pawscoadoptions.org or fill out an adoption application today and let's see if I'm the purrrfect fit! Rescue Me ID: 18-01-29-00175Gus-Gus (male)

Domestic Cat    Age: Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi, my name is Gus-Gus. I am a beautiful 8-year-old male neutered gray domestic medium-long-haired fellow. I am an indoor-only cat, which is absolutely necessary because I have been declawed. Wouldn't it be horrible if I were outside and something attacked me? I'd be helpless! To tell you something about myself, unlike most cats at Safe Place for Pets, I am not a Colorado native. Yes, I have to admit that I'm another transplant. I really hope you won't hold that against me though. I came here from sunny California two years ago with my prior mom. I was with her ever since I was a kitten, when she adopted me after someone abandoned me at ... (Read More)the veterinary office where she worked. Don't ask me how someone could do that; I'll never know. Anyway, she named me Gus-Gus, maybe because I was small and gray. I'm told that Gus-Gus was the name of a mouse in the Walt Disney movie Cinderella. I'm no small mouse now, I can tell you that! I'm a strapping 15.14-pound guy, and a few years ago I was over 17 pounds. I guess you could say that I like to eat. The vet put me on a diet - the meany! - so now I've slimmed down some. But you can see from my pictures how handsome I am. As far as my personality goes, I have to say that you have to have some patience with me. After living alone most of my life with my prior mom, I'm not really accustomed to being around people. So it may take me a while to warm up to you. I was with mom's sister-in-law from November until just a few days ago, and it took me until just over a week or so ago to start to really trust her enough to be friendly. She really liked me, especially after that, but she has two other older cats and she didn't think that we'd get along too well. Also, she says that although two cats are fine, three is a bit too much. I'm not really a lap cat, but I do like to sit at your feet once I get to know and trust you. I'm not big on toys either, EXCEPT those feathers on a stick that she dangles in front of me! I love to go after those. As a matter of fact, she's had to replace them a few times because I like to shred them. I also like to sit next to the window and watch the birds and squirrels outside the house. I'd really like to find a new forever home where I could settle in and learn to trust and love somebody again. Do you think you might want to come to the Safe Place Welcome Center In Manitou Springs and meet me? All you have to do is call 719-359-0201 or go to the Safe Place website at safeplacepets.org to make an appointment. As I said, it can take me a while to warm up, but I promise that if you're patient with me you won't regret it! (Less)

Ragdoll Mix    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Cats, Not Good w/ Dogs, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hi and thank you for reading my ad. I have been battling worsening health issues for several years. Even though I may seem younger, the incurable type of leukemia is progressive, and the more time passes, the less I am able to care for my 14 years old girl cat. I kept her as long as I could, and was planning to keep her until one of us passes, but it breaks my heart that I am not able to physically look after her (even at a minimum) anymore. I'm praying someone in the Craiglist land might find this beautiful furry girl a good fit. She's up to date on her shots 10/17, feline texts came up negative. She had extensive dental work done a couple ... (Read More)of months ago with only front teeth left. She also got regular grooming with me at least twice a year. Her personality is somewhat therapeutic. She is quiet, very calm, furry (rag doll mix), friendly, prefers not to be held for long, but does like to cuddle up next to you. Even at 14, she may follow you around, wrap her tail on your legs, pet you with her head. She loves to have her fur brushed. She still likes to play with her toys and chase a mouse on a string. She would be great as an only pet due to the fact that she seem to be scared of dogs. I adopted her when she was 6, and it has been a problem back then too. Including two brushes, toys, her litterbox as well as a clean one, sanitary absorbing pads for under the litter box (just something I've been using with her lately), several food dishes, and tons of diabetic food that will last a really long time. She started on Vetsulin just a few months ago, which I also will provide with suringes, however I was told that if I switched to Purina DM, her insulin may no longer be needed one day. That's the type of food I'm including. Thank you for considering my kitty as your pet. Have a blessed day! (Less)

Captain Conner aka Big Boy is looking for a home with fewer cats. I took him after his neighbor moved and left him behind. He prefers to be the only cat, although a few are okay (he is sleeping on my bed right now with other cats). He gets along with my dogs so long as they get out of his way. He will just punch them in the face. He is very affectionate to all humans, but a bully to just some cats that he doesn't like. Some cats just rub him the wrong way. He has attitude. Rescue Me ID: 18-01-25-00093Chappy (male)

Domestic Cat    Age: Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi, my name is Chappy. I know that it's kind of an odd name, but I got it because my mom's husband's name was Chapman, so she kind of named me after him. In any case, I am a 14.12-oz, 7-8 year old male neutered tabby and white Domestic Shorthair with claws. What a mouthful! I've been here at the Safe Place for Pets Welcome Center in Manitou Springs Colorado for a day or so now. I came with my brother Onyx after our mom died last week. It's kind of strange because we were with her for seven years. She didn't really adopt us; we adopted her. She was a great mom and we both loved her. We're indoor/outdoor cats, but we always came in at night ... (Read More)for cuddles and to sleep with her. No one was quite sure what would happen to us after Mom died because there was really no place for us to go. But a really good friend of hers decided that we just had to go to good homes, and when she did a search on rescue organizations she found Safe Place for Pets. She even went so far as to pay all our vet bills. He is a friend indeed. I call Onyx my brother because we lived together, but to be honest we weren't that close. He's super outgoing, and I'm more reserved. Don't get me wrong; I like to be petted and scratched as much as any other cat, and I do enjoy playing. I spent the night with the Safe Place for Pets volunteer, and she gave me a catnip mouse to play with. I had a grand time! But I'm more of a quiet guy. I really kind of think that I would like a forever home where I could be the only pet. Then I could have my peace but still get the petting and loving that I crave. I may be a bit slow to warm up, but if you give me a little time I promise that I can be a really loving pal. If you'd like to meet me and see if we might suit each other - and I really hope we would! - you can call Safe Place at (719) 359-0201 or email them at info@safeplacepets.org to make an appointment to come by and see me. Compatibility: Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Needs Vaccinations, Fearful/Anxious

Monty was found about 2 months ago attempting to cross the street and he ran into the curb knocking himself out. His eye's where sealed shut from an infection (cleared up with antibiotics), he was malnourished and severely dehydrated. I'm happy to say he's doing much better. He is well tempered, wonderful with small children and small dogs and does well with other cats. He does have some PTSD from his days on the streets and tends to be a bit jumpy. He will run and hide when he is scared. Monty is for the M on his forehead. He is a wonderful cat and those rather beautiful tiger markings (Mackerel Tabby) don't reflect is very gentle ... Monty eats dry food, which he has access too when ever he wants, he let's me know by tapping or clawing the food container when I'm in the kitchen. He also enjoys shredded chicken and sometimes needs some wet food to help him poop. Sadly I cannot afford to care for another cat having been caring for various ones about the neighborhood and my wife is having surgery at the end of month. I wont have to the time dedicate to Monty as I do now. Monty needs a loving forever home as soon as possible. . Monty is not neutered, but I would be willing to pay for half of the fee. (Less)

Gracie is not allowed to leave the room or have vet care. The room is too hot for her. Now Jennifer is putting Gracie in the closet. Please help. Jennifer will explain the problem. Her memory is fine. She is there due to Elder Finacial Fraud. Even if Gracie has to be put down, it would be better than the situation she is in and Jennifer agrees with this. I am too far away to help but you can call me for more information.     Aleckite Grey Tabby Domestic Short Hair Male 14 years old 14 lbs. Hi there! My name is Aleckite, but you can call me Al for short. I love people and I'm looking for the purrrfect family to share the rest of my life with. What can I say about myself? People like to describe me as an easy-going, laid-back, mellow kind of guy. I love meeting new people and exploring new places. Since I've got a few years under my belt, I'd like to think I've seen a bit of everything and feel pretty confident that the world is a good place. Other cats? Love 'em! Dogs? Sure, no problem! Oh, and did I mention how much I love people of all ages? My favorite ... (Read More)way to spend the day is snuggled up next to my people. I'll keep your spot on the couch warm, and I promise to greet you at the door when you get home to help you get settled in. I definitely don't mind listening to your day and letting you know I care by putting a paw on your lap. I just love to be close to my family and can't wait to show you the all the best ways to cuddle up together. I should mention that when the good people of PawsCo rescued me, I was in pretty rough condition. One of my eyes was in bad shape, and the doctors knew it was in my best interest to remove it altogether. I know it sounds pretty scary but I'm doing just fine now, and even while I was recovering, I stayed my happy self. I also have been diagnosed with diabetes, which means I need to have my gluclose tested each day and receive insulin if my levels are high. This can all be done in the comfort of home and PawsCo can give you all the details about the process. We hope that as I get healthier and healthier that my diabetes will go away! But that's not something that we can predict quite yet. If you're ready to find the love of your life, email my PawsCo friends at adopt@pawscoadoptions.org or fill out an adoption application today!     Mikala aka Mikkigirl is a 9 yr old medium haired grey and white kitty with green eyes. She is very healthy and quite pretty. She is spayed and has had her vaccines. Mikki had been an indoor/outdoor kitty yet got hit by a car and lost her left hind leg a few years back, although you would never know it. She can go outdoors for limited amounts of time with supervision and on a harness with a leash'|never alone or off leash. Too many critters out there. Rescue Me ID: 17-11-13-00360Honeybear (male)

Domestic Cat    Age: Senior

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi, do you need a cuddle? Or maybe a lap warmer? A big fluffy kitty cat to sleep with? Well maybe you ought to take a look at me! My name is Honeybear, and although that may seem like a silly name for an 11-old male neutered cat with claws, it actually suits me. I'm definitely a honey of a guy. I love to be petted and scratched and to snuggle up in your lap and sleep with you. I have to admit that I take up a lot of room though. At almost 15 pounds, I'm a (lovable) bear of a cat. I'm even the right color for a bear - at least a panda bear. As you can see from my picture, I'm a black and white tuxedo cat. So you can see why I say that my ... (Read More)name suits me. I'm at Safe Place for Pets because my mom is dying and as much as they love me, none of her daughters - my sisters? - can take me. It's been kind of a rough several weeks for me. First my mom went away, then my two feline brothers, Peach and Two Spots, left. So I've been alone in Mom's house for the past few weeks. It's been lonely! I don't particularly miss my brothers, although I got along ok with Peach. But I really didn't like Two Spots. I think I'd like a home where I'm the only pet. Then I wouldn't have to compete for human attention, which I adore! By the way, I ought to mention that I also like being around children. My mom's daughter used to bring her grandchildren with her when she visited and they were really nice. I sure would love to find a new forever home where I can have someone to love and - more importantly! - someone to love me. I am a cat after all and that means that I'm all about me. ;-) But I promise that if you love me, I'll love you back. It's a win/win situation! Why don't you come meet me and see just how much of a Honeybear I am? You can make an appointment to come by the Safe Place for Pets Welcome Center by emailing them at info@safeplacepets.org or calling [719] 359-0201. Just tell them that you need some loving from Honeybear! (Less)

Persian    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed

Millie is a sweet 3 year old girl. We adopted her almost a year ago,but it seems our other cat gets her very upset. Based on our observations, she needs to be the only pet in the house. When she is stressed she tends to urinate outside the litter box, but it is not related to any medical issues. Millie is full of love and enjoys playing and purrrrring. We are absolutely heartbroken to give her up, but feel she would be happier as the only pet in the house. She is good with kids and adults, it is other cats and dogs that stress her out.

Rescue Me ID: 17-10-16-00168Goofy (female)

American Shorthair Mix    Age: Senior

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

** Ask About My Special Adoption Donation ** Hello again, Goofy (or sometimes Goofy Girl) here. It hasn't been too long since I first introduced myself after coming to Safe Place for Pets, and I'd like to tell everyone how much has changed since then! The biggest thing is that I'm not hiding anymore. I've moved from one of the upper story kennels down to one one the ground floor so that I can easily come and go as I wish. That is really great, because whenever one of the Safe Place volunteers comes into the room I come out to get some attention and petting. They say that I have blossomed into a sweet, friendly kitty. I was so frightened ... (Read More)when I first came to the Welcome Center that no one realized what a gem I am. They do now! I also like being able to come and go easily because sometimes I get a little overwhelmed by the the other cats and with my kennel on the ground floor it's a snap for me to scuttle back in and take a nap or have a snack. Finally, now that I'm not scared anymore , I can hop up to the top of the kennels whenever I want. It's about 7 feet off the ground and there are several kitty condos up there where I can snuggle up and watch everything that is going on around me. I never would have believed it when I first got here, but the Welcome Center is a pretty neat place to be, especially considering all the loving that I get. It sure beats being alone in my prior mom's house after they took her away! But I'd still rather be in a forever home where I can have that special someone - or a whole family - who I could love and would love me back. Won't you come by the Welcome Center and meet this Goofy Girl? I'm sure you won't regret it. All you have to do is email Safe Place for Pets at info@safeplacepets.org or call 359-0201 to make an appointment. I'd love to see you - and have you see me! Original Bio: Hello there. My name is Goofy, and I'm a 13-year-old female spayed Domestic Shorthair with claws. I'm a pretty little thing with my gray tabby markings separated by large patches of white with a white face and pink nose. I'm a quiet lady and love nothing more than to sit on my mom's lap or sleep next to her in bed. I'm quieter than ever right now because my whole life has been turned upside down and I'm scared and confused by it all. I knew that my prior mom was sick, but then she got really sick and couldn't get up. It was terrible, and before I knew what was happening, men with big boots and coats broke into my house and took Mom away! And then I was alone in the house for weeks. My mom's daughter, who loves me very much, came by to make sure that I had food and water, but I really didn't feel like eating or drinking. I was just too scared and stressed. They tell me that I'm underweight now, and let me tell you, stress and loneliness are no way for a lady to lose weight! Even now that I'm here at the Safe Place for Pets Welcome Center, I'm still frightened and hide under my prior mom's pillow. I like to be petted, but am too shy to come out to get it. I need a forever home where I can feel safe and loved again. I'm tired of being sad and scared. I told you that my name is Goofy, but I've had several names over the course of my life. My brother, who died a number of years ago, and I came to mom from a friend of hers who found us in a garage that was about to be torn down. She wanted good old-fashioned farm names for us, so she named us Harold and Agatha. Well, Harold eventually became Punk. I became Goose because when I was a kitten I used to like to pounce on my prior mom's daughter's feet, and she called my Silly Goose or Goosey Girl. I was Goose until my Mom went away and the lady from Safe Place for Pets made an appointment for me to go to the vet to get my shots (ycch!) and be checked out. When she made the appointment, the lady at the vet's office misunderstood what she said and wrote my name down as Goof. As it turns out, that was for the best, because there used to be another cat at the Welcome Center named Goose. She was there for a long time before she died of kidney disease, and everyone loved her very, very much. It would have been very hard for them to have a different cat with the same name. So, since Goof sounds a lot like Goose, it seemed like a great idea to call me that, or better yet, Goofy or Goofy Girl. I really don't care what you call me as long as you love me! Won't you please come to the Welcome Center to meet me? You can email Safe Place at info@safeplacepets.org or call (719) 359-0201 to make an appointment to come meet me. I hope you do because I really, really need someone all my own who will cherish me. (Less)

Health: Spayed

Hi, everyone! My name is Cece and I am a new arrival at the Safe Place for Pets Welcome Center, where cats who have lost their families to terminal illness live until new families adopt them. As you can see from my pictures, I am finding my new temporary home to be very comfortable, but I know that I will like a new furever home and family even more! Perhaps once you read about me, you will come by to visit. Let me know you will be stopping by and I will brew a pot of coffee for us to enjoy! Sadly, I lost my mom not too long ago to a terminal illness. She adopted me as a young kitten, but honestly, I think I still am a youngster since I ... (Read More)won't be 2 years old until my birthday in November. I am a very pretty, calico girl, who is spayed and indoor-only. Besides my mom, I lived with a cockapoo and a kitty brother, and I enjoyed their company very much. My mom's son tried to add me to his family, after my siblings were adopted by friends of my mom, but I could not adjust to his German shorthair pointer, a very mellow boy who really was always nice to me. Now I am embarrassed by my bad behavior toward him, but at the time I was just too fearful of his 'giant' size! In my new future home, it would be best if any dogs were no bigger than cockapoo size. Even though I like the company of small dogs and cats, nothing is better than the company of people. I love the attention from the cattery volunteers, and I come running when treats are included. I hope soon I will be able to do the same with you! Contact Safe Place for Pets on the web (safeplacepets.org), by phone (719-359-0201) or email them at info@safeplacepets.org to meet me. I hope to see you soon and I am confident that you won't be disappointed! (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Cat in Colorado
Cats can make good pets in Colorado if they match your IifestyIe. Domestic Cats have been intriguing companions for humans since ancient times. Worldwide, cats are even more popular than dogs as pets. Sadly, huge numbers of cats are in need of adoption and care. A cat owner who no longer wants the cat, or is no longer able to care for a cat, may drop the cat off at a shelter or simply abandon it. Overcrowding in shelters, along with too few adoptive families for the cats, leads to many wonderful pets having to be euthanized. Abandoned cats fend for themselves and breed in the wild, forming colonies of feral cats. Feral cats have such a difficult existence that they typically only live an average of two years, whereas domestic cats can live an average of twelve years with proper care. Organizations exist that can catch and tame feral kittens, and then place them in a home, but adult ferals can rarely be socialized to trust humans. Meanwhile, many prospective cat owners choose to purchase a kitten from a pet store or breeder, and may not know that even purebred cats and kittens are often available for adoption.

Once someone is ready for the responsibility of caring for a cat, adoption can be an incredibly rewarding decision. Adoption benefits cats, owners, and society alike. Adopting a cat is typically much less expensive than purchasing one. Shelters often have a wide selection of very sweet, friendly cats and kittens, including purebreds. Adoptive owners enjoy bonding with their pets, and have the extra satisfaction of knowing they have rescued a wonderful companion from a hard existence. Every cat adopted means one less cat has to be euthanized. Every kitten purchased new results in one less opportunity for adoption to take place. If you are ready for a pet cat, please consider adoption!
