Please read completely: FOR INFORMATION ON THIS ANIMAL PLEASE CONTACT 256-883-3783. BE SURE TO HAVE ID# READY. Animals at this shelter are held a reasonable amount of time so at the time of posting it is adoptable and not in immediate danger. However, the time period is limited depending upon the shelter population. Please note: THE SHELTER IS FULL. If you are interested in fostering, the need is great and we would love to have you. If you are interested in adopting me: 1) Write down my Animal ID # . 2) Make sure to mention Animal ID # when visiting or calling. 3) Remember all adoptions stop 30 minutes prior to closing time. 3) You will ... (Read More)not be allowed to place a hold on me. 4) I cannot be shipped to you. 5) Before adopting me, you can spend time with me outside or in a meet and greet room. Please ask for assistance. 6) We take cash, checks, debit cards, VISA and Mastercard as a method of payment. **IMPORTANT: Huntsville Animal Services cannot guarantee that I will still be available for adoption as we do not hold animals for anyone under any circumstances. Animals are adopted on a first come, first serve basis. You may want to call and ask if I am still available prior to visiting the shelter. When you adopt me, I will stay at the shelter and be taken to the veterinarian of your choice where I will be spayed or neutered before going to my new home. If I am already spayed or neutered, I can go home with you upon adoption. My adoption cost is very affordable and includes my adoption fee, spay/neuter, vaccinations, deworming, license (if you live within Huntsville city limits), a collar and personalized ID tag. Please know that a high percentage of animals in the shelter are brought in as strays. It is impossible to know anything about a stray animal and many times we can only make our best educated guess on breeds, age, etc. Every animal you see posted here has passed a general temperament test as performed by shelter staff and it is considered to be non-aggressive. ADOPTION FEES: (check for specials and promotions) Dogs: $80 - 170 - includes spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, rabies voucher, deworming, *heart worm and flea/tick prevention; purebred dogs and puppies tend to cost more and dogs that have been in the shelter longer will probably cost less. Cats: The shelter is currently running a $35 special on cats. (regularly $80) - includes spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, feline aids/leukemia testing, rabies voucher, deworming, *heart worm and flea/tick prevention LICENSE FEES $10 - 1 year license $35 - Lifetime license EVERY ADOPTER RESIDING IN THE CITY OF HUNTSVILLE, AL WILL BE REQUIRED TO PURCHASE ONE OF THE ABOVE LICENSE OPTIONS AT TIME OF ADOPTION OPTIONAL SERVICES $10 - Heartworm test. Blood test known as the 'snap test' that shows when heart worm antigens are present in the blood. $20 - Microchip. Another line of defense to help you get your pet back in the event he/she is lost. This is especially recommended for those pets known to climb fences, chew collars/tags, etc. Start your new pup out right by gentle training and socialization. If you confront a behavior problem you are not sure what to do about, Laurel Rose is a dog trainer in Huntsville who has offered to meet with people who adopt dogs from the Huntsville Animal Shelter for a free evaluation. Rescue Me ID: 14-11-20-00128Little Man (male)

Domestic Cat    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Malnourished, FIV

PLEASE HELP! My husband brought this guy home yesterday because he was so thin and we wanted to help him. Sadly he has FIV so we can't keep him because of our other FIV negative cat. Please share with anyone who might have room in their home and heart for this guy. Really sweet cat and he's been using the litter box. Not sure how long he has or how well he will recover, but I'd like to find him a good home to finish his life out being cared for and about. From what we have read if he is taken care of and kept inside, he could live a nice long peaceful life. While we have been feeding him he appears to be gaining more weight, energy and ... (Read More)spirit. He is starting to talk more and be more outgoing. His tail is in constant motion and he has a strong purr :) He is currently only 6 pounds and would appreciate absolutely any love you could give to him! (Less)

Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Please Please Please........She is a sweet a gentle spirit. It takes her some warming up but once she gets to know you she is a chatty kathy. But you must have patience. She has never clawed furniture and is house broken.Phoebe is very mild mannered dainty and timid. She is the true definition of scaredy cat. I took her in because her owner was getting married and his new son is allergic to cat dander. She was headed to the pound after he'd made several attempts to find her a home. I couldn't let that happen although my husband too suffers from allergies but not to the extreme. His patience has run out and I need to find her a forever home ... (Read More)asap. She is great company and although she is good with my son who is 6, I think she would prefer a more mature person. I also have a small yappy type dog and I keep them separated because my dog can be a bit of a bully. They did have one run in and she was not aggressive at all. I had to save her, poor thing, and she went and hid for the rest of the day. Please save this beautiful soul. I am no longer able to keep her in my home so time of of the essence!Thank you for your consideration. (Less)

My Daughter moved into an apartment that will not allow her to keep her cat. My wife is very allergic, so we have to try and find him a home. He must be out of the house by the 31st, so we may be able to board him a bit, but not for a long time. His name is Seatree. He's a 3.5 year old male black, neutered domestic shorthair cat, with his claws and a small white patch on his chest and green eyes. He is up to date on vaccinations. He is great with kids and other cats and little dogs (He will let my four year old Granddaughter carry him all over without complaint). He is an indoor/outdoor cat. He was litter box trained, but now just ... (Read More)asks to go out. He is on Prednisolone for allergies (1 tablet very other day). He is a very good cat (I am not a cat person and I think so), but needs a home very quickly. We have already tried multiple sources, but they are all full with the exception of Huntsville Animal Services, which is a kill shelter. He deserves better than that and we would rather not do, if possible. (Less)

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Very High Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Gregor turned 1 in September 2014. He is neutered and declawed. He is litter trained. He is very energetic and curious. He is able to open doors and cabinets. He will investigate everything. He will not stay off the kitchen counters and can be destructive i.e., tearing up carpeting in the corners and knocking over lamps etc. I have an older cat that he terrorizes and will not leave alone. I have lost all patience with this kitten. Please rescue him.

This is the sweetest, gentlest cat I have ever come in contact with. She was dropped off in our subdivision and was within 2 weeks of delivering 7 babies. She had them in our garage and I found her just after she had delivered #7. I was able to pick her and all the babies up and get them in the house. She never once tried to bite, scratch or hiss at me. She did not want my other cats near, but she allowed our really large dog100#s, to sniff and lick them. I would love to keep her, but I currently have 7 inside plus 2 ferals that I feed.

Cheshire here! You can call me Chess. I am a neutered domestic shorthair tabby. I was born sometime in 2006. My previous owner crossed over the rainbow bridge and I had no where to go so I came to this wonderful rescue so they could find me a home. I am pretty laid back and I would do best in a home by myself with no kids, so please won't you consider taking me home with you.

PIease Read Before Adopting a Cat in Alabama
Cats can make good pets in Alabama if they match your IifestyIe. Domestic Cats have been intriguing companions for humans since ancient times. Worldwide, cats are even more popular than dogs as pets. Sadly, huge numbers of cats are in need of adoption and care. A cat owner who no longer wants the cat, or is no longer able to care for a cat, may drop the cat off at a shelter or simply abandon it. Overcrowding in shelters, along with too few adoptive families for the cats, leads to many wonderful pets having to be euthanized. Abandoned cats fend for themselves and breed in the wild, forming colonies of feral cats. Feral cats have such a difficult existence that they typically only live an average of two years, whereas domestic cats can live an average of twelve years with proper care. Organizations exist that can catch and tame feral kittens, and then place them in a home, but adult ferals can rarely be socialized to trust humans. Meanwhile, many prospective cat owners choose to purchase a kitten from a pet store or breeder, and may not know that even purebred cats and kittens are often available for adoption.

Once someone is ready for the responsibility of caring for a cat, adoption can be an incredibly rewarding decision. Adoption benefits cats, owners, and society alike. Adopting a cat is typically much less expensive than purchasing one. Shelters often have a wide selection of very sweet, friendly cats and kittens, including purebreds. Adoptive owners enjoy bonding with their pets, and have the extra satisfaction of knowing they have rescued a wonderful companion from a hard existence. Every cat adopted means one less cat has to be euthanized. Every kitten purchased new results in one less opportunity for adoption to take place. If you are ready for a pet cat, please consider adoption!
